🧠 The Thinking Brain vs. The Emotional Brain — and Why It Matters for EFT
When we talk about calming the nervous system, it helps to understand the two main “parts” of the brain involved in stress and safety.
💛 The Emotional Brain
This is the part of the brain that reacts fast.
It includes the amygdala — your internal alarm system.
It’s responsible for big feelings, emotional memories, and the fight/flight/freeze response.
When this part is activated, your body goes into protection mode.
🌿 The Thinking Brain
This is the prefrontal cortex — the part behind your forehead.
It helps with logic, decision‑making, perspective, and calming impulses.
But when the emotional brain is overwhelmed, the thinking brain can go offline, which is why it’s hard to think clearly when you’re stressed.
✋ This Is The Exciting Part When EFT Comes In
Tapping is one of the few practices that engages both systems at the same time.
The tapping points soothe the emotional brain, while naming your experience keeps the thinking brain online.
This combination helps lower emotional intensity, reduce cortisol, and bring your whole system back toward regulation.
