Apple Homecare’s core values are based around two key principles

Listening

We know that what is important to you may differ from what is important to others – everyone has individual needs and preferences. We will get to know you by listening to what you have to say, and this will inform how we meet your individual needs and help you achieve your goals. Teamwork

Our Head of Service and Registered Manager, Jo Ardrey, is supported by an exceptional team of care co-ordinators and support workers, all of whom benefit from Apple Homecare’s commitment to training and professional development. We only recruit people who:
share our core values
focus on the individual needs of the person being supported
have exceptional listening skills
are discreet and confidential
are passionate about their work

Nadra Ahmed from the National Care Association on BBC Five Live this morning talking about the unacceptable waits people are experiencing for social care. Many are waiting a month to be assessed, and some are dying before they have a care package organised for them. We will always aim to perform our assessments within a few days of a person being referred to us, and will aim to start our care packages when the person needs us to. It's all part of going the extra mile for our customers.

Our 'oldest' (longest serving) and youngest team members enjoying a game of table tennis at HQ after our staff meeting today. Can't say the rules were followed to the letter but they certainly enjoyed themselves!

This week we have had around 500 applications from carers who live overseas, and are looking for a move to the UK to work in care. Many of the applications come from African countries such as Nigeria and South Africa, and many also from India. Most have good experience in care, very professional CV's and covering letters, and seem to want to come over to work hard and support people. There must be thousands like them applying to services across the country. Could this be the answer to the sector's staff shortages? Keen to hear your thoughts...

It’s Valentine’s Day. All over the country people will be preparing for a night of romance. A great thing to do on Valentine’s Day is to talk about the relationship, reminisce about great times and celebrate the history you have together.

Spare a thought for those who have lost a loved one, or are living with someone with a condition such as dementia, who may not be able to share a conversation like that with the person they love or loved. Perhaps you could have that conversation with them, give them the opportunity to remember the good times and to reminisce. Sometimes listening is the best gift you can give someone.

As the care sector gets tougher for staff and providers, we are reminding ourselves and each other that we are a team. When there are fewer people around to do a job, the need to work as a team gets much greater. It's sometimes hard to create a strong team ethic when people work alone a lot of the time and don't see each other that much, but that's what we are doing. What do you think makes for a good team in Homecare? Let us know your ideas.

I suspect a lot of carers can’t wait for this - our carers start early and finish late which means a lot of driving in the dark.
