Cutting down on caffeine can improve your energy levels, your sleep quality and lower feelings of anxiety and panic. The best way to reduce your intake is gradually, this will reduce your chances of withdrawal side effects. This is especially important if, for example, you are drinking multiple cups of coffee a day. Start with switching one of your regular drinks to a non or low caffeine alternative such as herbal or fruit tea. You can also cut down by having an early ‘cut off’ such as not having any caffeine after 1pm.

Quitting or even cutting down the amount you smoke or v**e has many benefits for you health. If you are finding it difficult to do on your own, there are loads of resources available for support, including online NHS information and ni****ne replacement therapies or medication. If you smoke, you can also move to va**ng first before quitting completely as this may make quitting easier. In the short-term, va**ng is less harmful for your health than ci******es.

Now we couldn’t have a post about limiting harmful substances in January and not talk about Dry January. If you have not already heard of it, Dry January is a health challenge to not drink any alcohol for the whole month. There are so many benefits, such as improved sleep, immune system health and saving money just to name a few. Our health theme for January is 'limit harmful substances.' Now we all know that alcohol and smoking are bad for us, but did you know that alcohol can actually negatively affect your spinal health? Our spine requires adequate hydration for the spinal cord to properly cushion the discs to prevent injury. But alcohol causes dehydration, thus putting extra strain on our spine. We will be posting this month about Dry January, and other ways you can reduce the amount of harmful substances you consume.
