Victoria joined the Pilates East team back in September teaching Barre on a Friday evening 🙌🏻

We sat down with her to find out more about her and her for Pilates 🤍

1. Tell us about how you got into Pilates

I took my first Pilates class while training in classical ballet. It was a beautiful complement to my dancing, and I quickly noticed the incredible benefits it brought to my body and movement. The more I practiced, the more fascinated I became with the method and its history!

2. How would you describe your teaching style?

My teaching style is supportive, mindful, and encouraging. I love helping clients understand the purpose behind each exercise so they can truly connect with their bodies and movement. I focus on clear and guiding cues for clients to leave each session feeling good about their progress, and excited for what’s next in their Pilates journey.

3. What do you love most about Pilates?

Pilates is endless, there’s always more to explore! Same exercise can serve a different purpose depending on how you approach it, so you’re constantly learning and evolving. I also love its accessibility. Pilates has no barriers and can be adapted for everyone, no matter their level or background.

4. Three favourite exercises?

Teaser, jack knife and swan dive

5. One interesting fact we might not know about you?

I’ve inherited a love for textiles and sewing, and it’s become one of my favorite creative outlets! There’s something magical about turning a simple piece of fabric into a little garment, experimenting with textures and colors, and then seeing my family and friends actually wear my creations.

6. what motivates you?

Seeing clients fall in love with the method and recognizing their own progress is what motivates me the most. Watching them build confidence, and awareness through Pilates is incredibly rewarding!

7. And lastly, why should everyone do Pilates?

Because Pilates truly is for everyone! You don’t need to be flexible or strong to start, just open to moving and learning about your body. It adapts to every individual and every stage of life, helping you move and feel better.

If you’re new to Pilates or haven’t used the magic circle, let us explain…this prop will change the way you move, the way you understand your body and you will certainly work hard in the process.

The studio is beautiful and you can stay for a sauna, cold plunge or coffee after class. What a way to start your week. 🌿

This quote (or a paraphrased version of) has been said to me multiple times this week by different clients.

It’s the exercises that look ‘easy’ that challenge you the most. Or the advanced exercises but with small, specific corrections, relevant to you and your body that have you questioning your life choices 😄

When you know what you’re trying to get from an exercise, it changes how you approach it.

More is not more in Pilates. Effort does not equal force and power. Efficiency and ease of movement is always our goal across all levels of teaching 🌿

Next time you’re in class, look to soften your movement, find stillness, and notice how the energy and focus changes.

Master your Matwork teacher workshop

Sunday 7th December 10pm - 1pm

A workshop for teachers to explore and delve deeper into the Classical Matwork.

Taught by studio owner and qualified teacher trainer Lauren, we will break down the exercises and build them back up again!

Fine tune technique, find the connections and look at ways we can modify without losing the essence of the exercise.

We will also look at props (magic circle, weights and band) and how we can use them to help our clients achieve the exercises.

A few spaces available. Get in touch with any questions. Lauren 💛

What does it take to make a good Pilates teacher?

It goes without saying (but it seems it’s not always the case these days!) but an initial love for Pilates as a student. We all find Pilates in our own way, but you have to fall in love with it to then choose to make it your profession.

This then leads to genuine enthusiasm to practice, learn and teach, a commitment to deliver the best we can for our clients and a lifelong love for the job.

As teachers, we learn to ‘flex our style.’ We meet our clients where they are and give them what they need. An abundance of empathy is a must and the skill to recognise how to support you. It’s a balance of patience to build skill and strength and encouragement to push you out of your comfort zone.

On top of this, our teacher at Pilates East have spent hours and hours learning, understanding and teaching the Pilates repertoire. It is more than choreography, it is an intelligent collection of exercises and pieces of Apparatus designed to support you physically. To bring clarity and focus to your mind and to show you what you are capable of!

What else would you add? 🥰

The ideal weather to hide away with a good book 📖 ☔️

This is just a selection of our favourite Pilates related books that we return to regularly. Some greats from and of course, Return to Life and Your Health by the main man.

We are more than happy to lend these out to clients, in fact we absolutely love it when you want to delve deeper and discover more about Pilates. Please just ask!

The magic of Pilates is the history; the lived experiences of teachers and clients across the world 🌎 and the openness to share different interpretations, teachings and stories

In Classical Pilates, we repeat exercises to build skill, hone technique and refine our understanding.

Details matter. We’re not looking for perfection but we do want to move with precision and intention.

This brings focus to your workout and encourages the mind/body connection. Overtime, small corrections lead to big changes. Without you even realising they’re happening!
