🌿 Yesterday was social prescribing day
🌿 In our modern, busy lives ‘green social prescribing’ is a practice where health care professionals can refer patients to non-clinical interventions within nature-based activities or environments, such as forest bathing and gardening clubs.
🌿 The underlying principle is that nature has the power to heal, and play an integral role in our holistic wellbeing. Holistic therapy means considering the person as a whole, rather than just treating symptoms
🌿 Growing evidence suggests that spending time in nature can reduce stress and anxiety 🌿 Aromatherapy can be accessed through green social prescribing in some cases
🌿 Whilst it’s important to remember that aromatherapy is a complementary therapy, and should not ever replace clinical interventions, or seeking treatment from healthcare professionals- it can be helpful for supporting holistic wellbeing through hedonics
🌿 Hedonics means something that we find pleasurable (such as inhaling our favourite aroma, for example)
🌿 There is also the obvious connection between aromatherapy and nature; with essential oils coming directly from a plant, flower, or tree
🌿 This weekend consider how you could add your own slice of green social prescribing by going for a walk in nature with family or friends; or simply getting out into the garden for a while and getting that connection back to nature
🌿If you’d like to explore which essential oils you specifically might be drawn to, then do get in touch. My one-to-one consultations always include an ‘aroma discovery’ - in fact this is one of the most important parts of the consultation- to discover which oils you love the smell of! Wishing you all a calm weekend 🌿🌺.
