Remembering and Respecting

20 November is Transgender Day of Remembrance - a time to honour the memory of transgender people whose lives were lost due to violence and discrimination.

Inclusion begins with empathy, understanding, and allyship.

Purple Reach supports organisations to build safer, more inclusive environments for everyone.

Why Accessible Toilets Matter

19 November is World Toilet Day - a reminder that everyone deserves access to safe and inclusive toilet facilities.

Accessible toilets, aswell as changing place toilets which offer more space, changing facilities and hoist facilities providing people with independence, dignity, and comfort - something that should never be optional.

Accessibility matters in every environment.

Small Changes. Big Impact.

When communication is inclusive, it builds trust, confidence, and stronger connections.

That’s what we do at Purple Reach — help organisations break down barriers and reach more people through clear, accessible communication.

If you’re not sure where to start, we can help.

Understanding Diabetes: Awareness Starts with Education

14 November marks World Diabetes Day — a global reminder that accessibility and understanding go hand in hand.

When health information is communicated clearly and accessibly, it helps everyone manage their wellbeing more confidently.

Purple Reach works with organisations to make communication more inclusive for all.

Image: graphic shows people around a clipboard with the words diabetes on it and the image of a person, there are 5 people in total. One person is sitting on top of the clip board with a foam finger ointment their hand. The other people are stood beside the clip board - one person is holding a syringe, another is sitting on top of a glass vial, the other is holding a blood sugar reader and the last person is writing on a clip board. There is also the image of an apple.

November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month - shining a light on one of the hardest cancers to detect early.

Raising awareness and improving how health information is shared can help people recognise symptoms sooner.

Let’s keep communication clear, accessible, and supportive.

Let’s Talk Men’s Health this Movember

Movember is dedicated to raising awareness for men’s mental health, su***de prevention, and prostate and testicular cancer.

At Purple Reach, we understand how important it is to create safe, inclusive spaces where men feel able to talk and seek support - whether that’s in workplaces, communities, or at home.

A simple check-in can make a big difference.

As October draws to a close, we’ve been reflecting on a month filled with awareness - from mental health and arthritis to dyslexia and stroke recovery.

Each one has reminded us that accessibility isn’t a single topic or checklist. It’s a shared commitment - to listen, to learn, and to make changes that truly open up the world for everyone.

At Purple Reach, we believe that inclusion grows stronger when we keep these conversations going beyond the awareness days themselves.

As the autumn evenings settle in, we’re grateful for everyone who’s taken time to reflect, share, and push for progress this month. Together, we can keep moving things forward - one step at a time.

On World Stroke Day, we reflect on the long-term impact strokes can have on mobility, speech, and daily living.

Stroke survivors often face invisible challenges like fatigue or cognitive changes, alongside visible ones. But with the right support, people can and do rebuild their lives.

Communities and workplaces must ensure stroke survivors are not excluded - through accessible spaces, flexible opportunities, and a culture that values every contribution.

This week is International Stuttering Awareness Week.

Stammering is not a limitation. What limits people are the impatient interruptions, the jokes, and the lack of understanding.

Inclusion means:

- Giving people time to speak without pressure.
- Avoiding finishing sentences for them.
- Creating environments where communication differences are respected.

Accessibility is about listening, not just hearing.

Image: graphic shows a green speech bubble with 3 white dots inside it and an orange speech bubble with three white lines inside it. There are the words "International stuttering Awareness Day" underneath the graphic.

Today is World Spine Day.

Back pain and spinal conditions affect millions of people — and yet workplaces and public spaces often ignore the impact.

Inclusion here means:

- Ergonomic workstations tailored to the individual.
- Opportunities for regular movement breaks.
- Recognition that pain and fatigue can fluctuate day to day.

Accessibility is not about “special treatment” — it’s about removing barriers so people can contribute fully.

Image: graphic shows a spine with red flowers with green leaves going down the length of the spine. The date "16th October" and the words "World Spine Day" are next to the image.
