Marking Remembrance Day....

Remembrance Day holds deep significance for many of our residents whose family histories are touched by war, and today we will listen as they share memories from the past. We have been putting up appropriate decorations in the home over the last week and today we will hold a period of silence and make sure that we honour the sacrifice of people in the two World Wars and other conflicts. We hope that going forward we can all learn to live in a more peaceful and harmonious world. We should never forget the sacrifices of those who fought so that we can live as freely as we do today.

Marking Remembrance Day

Recently at Edward House, we held an activity that all of our residents wanted to get involved in. Making Poppy displays for last Sunday's parade proved incredibly popular, and there were some lovely creations on display. It brought everyone together, and there were lots of shared memories.

Firework Fun.....

Yes, it's the 5th November, and that means Fireworks! Our lovely residents decided to have a go at sketching and colouring their ideal firework displays. There was a lot of creativity on display as usual, and everyone is certainly hoping to see something similar for real tonight. This was a great activity for engagement, fine motor skills, as well as being a lot of fun.

Halloween creativity.....

Our lovely residents always enjoy an Arts and crafts session, and this week was no exception. With Halloween nearly upon us, they decided to do some spooky colouring. There were some lovely pictures created and we will enjoy seeing them around the home over the coming few days....if we can fight our way through the ghosts, ghouls and pumpkins!

Tony's trip out....

Our lovely resident Tony had a fun trip out recently. He went shopping to the Range for all things Christmasy. Of course we had to stop off and get a couple of treats as well. Well, why wouldn't you? Tony really enjoyed himself and can certainly recommend the range for their Xmas selection.

Clubbing together.....

Our lovely residents at Edward House have always enjoyed getting together for some enjoyable activities. So with this in mind this week they have started their very own book club. They started the club off by enjoying some short stories. We wonder what titles they will include for next time - what books would you choose?

People do the nicest things.....

It's often a random act of kindness that really touches people - and so it was last week when two ladies brought in doughnuts as a thank you for the care and support we provide our residents. Totally unexpected, but a really charming surprise. A huge thank you to both of them for such a lovely gesture.

Hedgehog Happiness.....

With Autumn well and truly here and the colder weather arriving with a bang this week, our residents' attention has turned to all things autumnal. A well known sight at this time of year are Hedgehogs looking for a suitable place to hibernate. Who doesn't love a hedgehog - those little bundles of prickles that can be seen slowly walking through our gardens form time to time. So with that in mind our lovely residents have enjoyed making some hedgehog’s this week. Was lovely to see so many being made and everyone enjoying themselves so much. What animal would you make to represent Autumn?

Thank you to everyone who made this such a fun activity. We will bringing you pictures of the festiva later this week, so stay tuned.

Giving thanks.....

This Autumn, our lovely residents wanted to create a tree of thanks for the things they are most thankful for. Everyone really enjoyed participating, and there are some wonderful messages on the tree. What a poignant reminder to all of us of what's truly important in life. What would you give thanks for?

Identikit Fun!

Our lovely residents had a lot of laughs this week when they tried creating portraits using identikit items. Now we can't say for certain whether these are supposed to be self-portraits or just of anyone...but we do know everyone had tremendous fun and the results produced a lot of laughter. To be honest thought no one taking part thought the police would be asking them to be their next photofit artist!
