Marking Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day holds deep significance for many of our residents whose family histories are touched by war, and today we will listen as they share memories from the past. The home will hold a period of silence and make sure that we honour the sacrifice of people in the two World Wars and other conflicts. We hope that going forward we can all learn to live in a more peaceful and harmonious world. We should never forget the sacrifices of those who fought so that we can live as freely as we do today.

Something to cuddle....

We all like something to cuddle now and again, and for some of our residents, having a tactile and sensory experience that comforts is a crucial part of them feeling safe and secure. Here is a picture of our lovely resident Ann, who is very pleased with her new cat Percy. We are sure Percy will be getting lots of cuddles and will be a constant comforting presence by her side.

Parachute fun.....

Normally you would use a parachute when you jump out of a plane. Of course, for our residents that's not really possible any more, but it doesn't mean they can't have fun with one. At Moriah House we play this great game where residents bounce a balloon on the cloth and try and make sure it doesn't land on them. There are always a lot of laughs. It's a great exercise for strengthening arms and also helps engagement and hand eye coordination. All in all a terrific activity.

Engaging Minds.....

We love seeing our residents having fun, and when we can combine that with something that helps promote engagement, memory and motor skills - then that's a great activity. Here are some pictures of our lovely residents playing table top games recently. They have to concentrate, as well as use fine motor skills to move ppieces around the board. To some of us it might just seem like simple snakes and ladders, but to others it can be an important part of staying mentally agile!

Fantastic effort for a great cause....

Our lovely staff members, Kelsey, Myrna, and Nicola, took part in the Alzheimer's Society memory walk last Sunday. It was a fantastic event with a big turnout for such a great cause. Supporting people living with Alzheimers is something they do every day, so they understand the importance of fundraising efforts like these. What a great effort ladies!

Lending a helping hand.....

Our resident Sharron loves to help out in the dining room. She sets the tables for us everyday, and thoroughly enjoys getting everything redy so that everyone can enjoy a lovely lunchtime. Her help is gratefully received and she does a great job! Keep up the god work Sharron - you're a star!

Happy Birthday Pat!

Our lovely resident, Pat, marked something of a milestone yesterday, when she celebrated her 85th Birthday. There were lots of cards and presents, and a yummy Birthday Cake! Pat would like to thank everyone for making her day feel so special. Roll on 86!

So many people.....

Moriah certainly drew quite a crowd on Saturday. Family, friends and lots of people from our local community joined together to make the day special.
