Day 8 of 12! Now is the time a lot of people will be putting resolutions in place to target in the upcoming year.
It's very easy to make big sweeping resolutions of I'm going to get fit, or get a new job, or I'm going to give up gambling, alcohol drugs etc. But goal setting is much more effective when rather than focussing on the bigger picture, focus on the little wins. Start making small changes day by day that bring you closer to your goal.
The old adage of One Day at a time fits not just with recovery, but with reaching your goals as well. But if your goals are recovery focussed this year, think about taking it one day at a time. Waking up in the morning and saying to yourself, for today I will not gamble.
Some days this will be easier than others, some days you might have to take it minute by minute. But by making the commitment of not gambling today you are opening up a world of possibility and opportunity that's afforded in recovery.
Learn from the past, set vivid, detailed goals for the future, and live in the only moment of time over which you have any control: now.
