One of our fantastic case managers, Claire Rhodes-Andrews, will be taking on Tough Mudder in Nottingham on 20 June, raising funds for Cancer Research UK.

This is a demanding challenge that will test both physical and mental resilience, and Claire is stepping up for a cause that touches so many lives.

We would really value your support in helping her reach her fundraising goal.

We are looking forward to hopefully sharing a few action shots from the day. Tough Mudder is not for the faint-hearted, and that is exactly why we are so proud. 👏

Some of the AKA team attended the South Yorkshire Acquired Brain Injury Forum (SYABIF) today in Sheffield, joining fellow professionals, peers and those with lived experience for an afternoon focused on the practical realities of life after brain injury.

The session, centred on navigating the practicalities after a brain injury, brings important conversations to the forefront, particularly around fluctuating capacity, consent, and the complexities of day-to-day decision-making and support. These are areas that sit at the heart of effective case management, and it is encouraging to see them explored through both professional insight and lived experience.

With contributions from Dr Catriona McIntosh and Candice Lovelle, alongside interactive discussion and shared learning, the event provided a valuable platform to strengthen understanding and build meaningful connections across the South Yorkshire ABI community.

We are hiring on behalf of a client - Educational Healthcare Assistant (Paediatric) in the Wolverhampton Area.

We are looking for an experienced Educational Healthcare Assistant who is an accountable, reliable, flexible, and motivated individual to work within our team. The successful candidate will provide 1-to-1 support whilst the client is in the school setting, and 2-to-1 support after school at the client’s home during term time.

During the school holidays, you will be expected to work 2-1 at home and in the community, identifying wheelchair-accessible activities for the client to promote sensory engagement and physical movement, and to offer the relevant support to the client and family.

You will be working with a 9-year-old female client who has complex care needs. This will include support with suctioning, peg feeds, all transfers, and engagement, as the client is nonverbal and has no voluntary movements. Due to personal care, the family have requested female candidates only, with experience in complex care and the school setting.

The closing date is 22 May. To find out more click here https://www.akacasemanagement.com/about-us/job-vacancies/

Hats for Headway is back, and it is firmly in the diary.

On Friday 15 May 2026, individuals, teams and organisations across the UK will once again come together to support Headway – the brain injury association- and the vital work it does to improve life after brain injury.

Hats for Headway is a simple but highly effective awareness and fundraising initiative. The concept is straightforward. Wear a hat, make a donation, and start conversations. Yet the collective impact is significant, helping to shine a light on the realities faced by those living with brain injury while generating essential funding for ongoing support services.

To find out more and to get involved, have a look at this link https://www.headway.org.uk/about-headway-uk/our-organisation/events-and-conferences/hats-for-headway-day/

We were delighted to receive these photos from one of our case managers, Claire Rhodes-Andrews, capturing a lovely Easter bonnet competition.

Claire and Isla had the important job of choosing the winner, and they certainly had a challenge on their hands. Every bonnet looked fantastic, with so much creativity and effort on display.

A special thank you to Mum Becky for providing the hamper, which made the occasion even more memorable.

Thank you for sharing this with us, Claire. 🐇 🌸 🐣

Last year, all our case managers successfully achieved registration with the Institute of Registered Case Managers. We are now one year on, and it's time to renew registration. One of our Directors, Andrew Rose, was the first to renew. He told us the process was very simple, which is good to know.

He also told us - 'maintaining IRCM registration is not simply about process; it’s a principle. He sees it as a way to actively support the development of national standards and add to a profession that is continuously evolving. At its core, it is about protecting the public and making sure that those accessing case management services can do so with confidence.

A trusted professional register provides that assurance. It demonstrates that individuals and organisations are working safely and ethically, with a commitment to continuous improvement.'

Well done, Andrew. We are proud to share your certificate. 👏

We often share updates from Headway - the brain injury association because we see firsthand the vital role they play in supporting individuals and families affected by brain injury.

We were recently pleased to hear about a fantastic fundraising effort led by Headway Nottingham. On Sunday, 27th April, one of their Trustees, Greg, will be taking on the London Marathon, covering the full 26.2 miles to raise funds for people in the local community whose lives have been impacted by brain injury.

We wish Greg every success on the day and look forward to following his journey. If you would like to sponsor Greg, here is the link https://2026tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/greg-almond

Our latest blog - Strengthening safeguarding practice across AKA Case Management.

At AKA Case Management, safeguarding is not a standalone obligation; it’s a fundamental part of how we deliver safe, effective and accountable support to the individuals and families we work with.

In March, our entire team undertook Level 3 safeguarding training for adults and children. To ensure the training was accessible to all, we delivered an online session for colleagues who were unable to travel to Nottingham. The week after, we held a face-to-face training day at our HQ, enabling full engagement across all roles within the organisation.

What stood out most was the team’s joint commitment. From case managers to administrative colleagues, everyone took part. https://www.akacasemanagement.com/strengthening-safeguarding-practice-across-aka-case-management/
