Mindfulness CAN be a really helpful strategy but it has to focus on what is appropriate for each person

This is a sort of a diary or journalling comic, following my thoughts on a walk today, after a conversation about mindfulness in counselling yesterday.

My overall feeling is that I'm very resistant to 'forcing' any kind of mind state on myself, plus if I'm sufficiently focused on a thought or worry, it can be really difficult to change focus. I hate the idea of using things that I love as some kind of 'tool' or 'technique'...

but the right interests *could* also lead to calm and 'presentness'. Perhaps there's more that I can do with that.

Very excited that I will be presenting the research from my Masters dissertation at the BACP conference in May. It explored the experience of clients with Learning Disabilities completing research measures during their counselling.

I hope that this will raise awareness that many current Research Measures both cause access issues for clients with Learning Disabilities and do not accurately capture their experience.

I was watching the animation of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse over the Christmas period and this really resonated with me. Reaching out to someone whether it is to a friend or family member or seeking therapy doesn't mean you have failed or that you have given up. It is actually the opposite, an awareness that whatever it is that is concerning you, can and should be different.

This time of year can be great for catching up with family and friends, but can also lead to situations where we feel uncomfortable and not able to do what we need to do to take care of ourselves. For those of us with a tendancy to people please it can be all to easy to let our boundaries slip.
Some helpful suggestions to help us look after our own needs so we can have the energy to enjoy this time of year πŸŽ„

Today is International Trans Day of Remembrance
I stand in solidarity and remember those whose lives were ended too soon - individuals murdered because they were trans, those who died by su***de, individuals failed by cisnormative systems and a transphobic society
