Too Long a Rolling Sun

No words to say
How I feel right now
Struggling to explain those thoughts
My mind is having an internal row

My head is switched on
Yet my mouth does not know
The oven is broken
The bread is uncooked dough

I can see and hear
Yet speaking is hard
I am the blunt edge
Of a well worn shard

Fingers crossed
My voice does normalise
Looking around me
Trying to convey with my eyes

Hand signals and waving arms
Stumbling through each phrase
Been too long already
Counting each of these days

So much support I have received
Grateful for each and every one
Hopefully it will improve
I hope with each rolling sun.

Return of the Words

My mind is not quite ready
But it is almost there
The sentences are becoming complete
The words I now can share

For it had been a struggle
To finish off my thoughts
The head is a ridiculous thing
Made up of crosses and noughts

Returning now though
To a more stable state
My soul is now settling
My heart is at a balanced rate

Has made me think about a lot
Especially family and friendship
Love pouring out of me
Like a tap never ceasing to drip

Connections are so special
Our link to the world
Whether we be in the blistering heat
Or in the wind swept cold

My hope is not to lose my words again
Yet I know that if I do
I merely have to reach out
And those I adore will pull me through.

Lost for Words

Right now is a struggle
To speak the right words
My mind is all jumbled
Stuck as an isolated baby bird

So much is in my own head
Piecing together each string
To make a complete sentence
Set off like a jack in a box spring

My spirit cannot be silenced
Although patience is key
I wish that my mouth was fully opened
And my heart could fly again free

Tricky at the moment
For my voice to make a sound
But love to my friends and family
Determined to make my world spin round

Hopefully soon though
Words will come back
As currently I feel like a shadow
Living as a soulless hack

So fingers crossed I can speak again
Properly as before
I will try and appreciate
My life evermore

Changing of the Tides

Transformation is key
As the situation allows
To release us, to be free
Not shut in, instead we rouse

So we may change
Yet we stay the same
In the world we enter
To play nature's game

As time moves forward
We take each new leap
To boldly go in the future
But our inner strength we do keep

We build up ourselves
From head to heart
Protection of our soul
Never to lose a single part

What makes us individual
Can never be lost
Be it a blistering heat
Or a fog covered frost

So live simply as you
No matter the strides
Work with the life you lead
Changing of the tides

2021- An Interesting Year

Taking a look back
At the year I have had
So many changes and challenges
Mainly good yet occasionally bad

For things have been difficult
Of that I am sure
Altering perspectives
From what was before

Ripples have been positive as well
Met lots of new friends
Other journeys have reached their conclusion
I've found the benefit of their ends

So a glimpse of my 2021
Is what many of you have seen
Many tears of sadness and joy
A different life now led to where I before have been

Onwards to the next year
My world has opened up its wings
As I learn more about myself
My heart again begins to sing.

My Message

The time goes so quickly
At this time of year
Santa puts his sleigh in the shed
Gives a haircut to the reindeer

The baileys has all been drunk
Either with milk or with cubes of ice
The elves are no longer naughty
But sit calmly on the shelf next to the rice

The bells no longer jingle
The cards are taken down
"Not long til the next one"
You tell the kids in town

For this time of joy
And the songs of cheer
Make people smile
And say "tis best time of year"

Although this festive period
Has been a bit more unusual than most
Remember the excitement
And the thanks to the host

For it can be tricky
To entertain us all
Eat, drink and be merry
That, and "happy new year", I do call.

Joy was Had

Spending time with those I love
Playing games in the conservatory
Uncovering festive anagrams
Joy is had, I'm pleased to see

Eating Brussel sprouts
Yum yum, pass the gravy
Spilling it down the front of a xmas top
Joy is had, I'm pleased to see

Watching a film at the cinema
Booked a seat so easily
Hearts racing and excited minds
Joy is had, I'm pleased to see

Waving goodbye and touching elbows
Next time will be more roomy
Saying hello on zoom instead
Joy was had, I'm pleased to see

Festive Times

Wishing you joy
At this very festive time
Be you a girl or be you a boy
Come on, celebrate and share a special rhyme

While some may be pouring a sherry
Getting red in the face
Becoming incredibly merry
And losing their natural grace

Others may be sat by a fire
Stroking their favourite pet
The warmth making them tire
Their evening is truly set

More may be with generations of family
Playing boardgames and Rummy
Grabbing shortbread and a cup of tea
A baby sucking on their dummy

So whatever your plans this December
If its your normal holiday or not
This will be a year history will remember
Although you may wish we forgot!

A New View

I can see clearer now
The tunnel has reached its end
Spending time with those I love
Be them family or friend

For life is a precious thing
Never forget it is what you get
That we even get one, is so very special
Consider yourself fortunate

So embrace what comes your way
Be them challenges or not
Remember experience is important
And not to be forgot

The world is more than just fast cars
Or a mansion on the hillside
It is full of joy everywhere you look
No need to search far and wide

So next time you have a ponder
On the greatest parts of your time on Earth
Consider the moment a child smiles
For the first time since its birth.

In the Right Direction

The world keeps turning
The clocks continue to tick
My mind keeps on running
The candle burns down to the wick

The shadows are there in the light
Bringing darkness to us all
Prepare yourself to show true might
Listen for their battle call

Your heart shines bright
To bring peace to the Earth
Defend day or night
Feel your own worth

As although the demons look
They will not win
We are more than what they took
We embody true strength in our skin

So no matter how hard they try
We will conquer those minds of black
And let the future days fly by
Never again to turn our back

Ripples that Weave

Sometimes I may wonder
What the future has in store
Dwelling on the past
What happened years before

Then I consider instead
To live each next day
Truly in the moment
And then come what may

It proves difficult at first
A simpler life though I believe
There is a plan there for us all
The ripples are yet to weave

So take one step at a time
Tentatively to begin
Then one must leap and jump
And trust in your own skin

We must not live in fear
Of making the same mistakes
Yet know that a cat lands on their feet
No matter what it takes

Candle

The candle is lit
As the darkness is upon us
It shines and it falls
As everything else does

But just because we falter
Does not mean we are weak
We rise again
The next chapter we seek

For that is what happens in life
Things change yet we remain the same
Looking at the future
The next step in the game

Taking a leap or shuffling forward
Not knowing where it may lead
Yet going on regardless
A tree will grow from our seed

We flourish again and again
No matter the strength of the light
The candle may be extinguished
But inside us there is an endless might.
