🎃 Let’s Keep Our Elderly Neighbours Safe and Happy This Halloween Weekend 👻
Halloween is a time for fun — costumes, pumpkins, and little ones enjoying the excitement of trick-or-treating. But for some of our elderly neighbours, the evening can feel less festive and more unsettling. Unexpected knocks, loud noises, and visitors after dark can sometimes cause worry or confusion.
This year, let’s make sure Halloween is enjoyable and safe for everyone — especially those who may be feeling a little vulnerable. A few small acts of kindness can make a big difference. 💛
🏠 If you or someone you know feels uneasy about Halloween night:
- Keep the door chain on and check who’s there before opening.
- Only answer the door if you feel safe — it’s perfectly okay not to.
- Display a “No Trick or Treaters Please” sign if you’d prefer not to be disturbed.
- If possible, spend the evening with a friend, family member, or neighbour for company.
- Don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re feeling anxious — a friendly chat can make all the difference.
🍬 For those out trick-or-treating:
- Please be thoughtful — some people may not want visitors.
- Look for houses with pumpkins or decorations; they’re usually welcoming to trick-or-treaters! 🎃
- Keep noise down, especially later in the evening.
- Move on quickly if no one answers the door.
💬 A small act of care goes a long way:
Check in on elderly neighbours before Halloween. Ask if they’d like company, or help them put up a sign if they don’t want visitors. Even a quick wave or kind word can make them feel seen, safe, and valued. 🧡
Together, we can make sure Halloween is full of fun, friendship, and community spirit — without leaving anyone feeling frightened or alone. 👻
