Did you know…
UHUK members like us take more than 1.1 million Out of Hours and NHS 111 calls every month. We alone deal with 180,000 clinical assessments each year. Each one of those calls is potentially a patient who won’t need to call an ambulance or visit A&E – freeing up those services for those facing an emergency. It works by triaging patients and directing them to the most appropriate urgent care and advice. By treating and caring for people in community based services, members prevent non-essential hospital admissions. Covering 64% of the population, UHUK members play a crucial role in supporting the overall health and care system, especially during busy times like in winter.

Did you know…
UHUK members operate on a budget of around 0.3% (less than half of one percent) of the NHS budget? And yet the range of services provided by us and other UHUK members is extensive, supporting 64%of the UK population. These NHS providers divert millions of patients away from overstretched ambulances, A&E departments and GPs via services including out of hours and clinical assessment, urgent primary care, NHS 111, virtual wards, palliative care, and A&E triage and treatment. It’s a high standard of care offered with compassion and run efficiently and effectively.

From 16th November to 16th December, it is Disability History Month.

In the UK, 1 in 5 people have a disability, 83 per cent of which are acquired during working life.

In the NHS, there has been a significant drive to use this month to:

- celebrate the achievements of staff with disabilities
- raise awareness of what a disability is – not all disabilities are visible or immediately apparent
- encourage leaders and managers to support staff through compassion and inclusivity
- encourage staff to record their disability on the NHS Electronic Staff Record and have open conversations with their managers
- check-in with staff that sufficient adjustments have been made to support those with disabilities to carry out their roles - whether that’s onsite or from home
- review recruitment practices to ensure they are inclusive.

Happy World Kindness Day! The aim of today is to make everyone in the UK carry out an act of kindness and take a small 'pause for kindness' to value its importance. What will your act of kindness be today?

On the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, the guns fell silent. The 1918 armistice of the First World War marked the end of one of the deadliest conflicts in human history.

To commemorate the anniversary of the peace in 1919, King George V dedicated November 11th as Armistice Day and requested the nation pause for two minutes’ silence.

This date is now used as a way to commemorate those who have died in any war — not just the First and Second World Wars.

Today, we honour those who have given their lives, may they rest in peace.
