Hand therapists know which braces/splint or orthosis is the best for you depending on your condition, pain, and medical history.
There are A LOT of different braces out there and many patients come to hand therapy and have already tried a number of braces.

Hand therapists can custom make and design splints and make modifications to off-the-shelf braces to help reinforce them and make them more comfortable.

Trivia Tuesday:
Hand therapy is a relatively new specialty. Its origins come from WWII when many soldiers had upper limb and hand injuries during the war. As you can imagine, there was a big need for surgery to help salvage the upper limb of the soldier. This profession has continued to develop and the need for hand therapy after surgery is just as important.

Hand therapy and surgery have come a long way since WWII and technologies and techniques continue to be refined and improved.
