Last week, we lost our CEO, Gary, following a short illness with cancer. We are heartbroken.

Just a few months ago, he stood on stage at the CCH National Extraordinary Care Awards, raising a glass to our teams. The room was full. He stood slightly to one side, never seeking the spotlight, but unmistakably proud.

That was Gary. Always turning the focus back to the people who make care possible. Those delivering it. Those supporting it. Those strengthening it every day across the country.

In under four years, he reshaped CCH.

He brought together 32 operating companies with a single people-first vision and renewed confidence in our national role. He strengthened how we operate and clarified the responsibility that comes with scale to reach those who need us and be a voice for the sector.

He believed in the professionalism of those who deliver care. Under his leadership, we moved from “care workers” to “care professionals,” as a statement of respect. He ensured their experience and judgement helped shape our direction. He created the Extraordinary Care Awards because excellence in care deserves recognition. He launched CCH Connect, our internal platform connecting over 15,000 colleagues and giving them a voice across the organisation.

Externally, he was determined that social care should not sit at the margins of national life. It should stand at the centre. He challenged perceptions, engaged policymakers and worked to secure home care’s rightful place in this country. The sector awarded him as the Most Influential Leader, but he was quick to credit that recognition to the strength of our teams.

Days before his passing, in his final letter to colleagues, he wrote:

“I know that each of you is the strength of CCH, and it is through you that we, and our sector, will rise. Please know that I am with you, and I believe in you. Above all, I am proud and grateful to be part of this family. We are one, , and we do not fail.”

Social care matters to this country. Gary believed that. So do we.

We will carry that belief forward. With Community. With Courage. With Heart. Together, we will transform the image of care, further support the health of the nation and strengthen the lives entrusted to us. For Gary, we will not fail.

Behind every complex care package is a family doing their absolute best in incredibly tough circumstances.

In our Essex branch, our Complex Care team has been supporting Amelia and her family, who are caring for Josh and Tom, who both have complex needs, while also facing Dad’s terminal illness. With the family living in very limited space, the pressure at home has been immense.

We were already commissioned to support one of the boys for two nights each week. Working closely with local NHS partners, the package was quickly increased to seven nights a week for both boys, ensuring the right support was in place when the family needed it most.

Huge well done to Victoria Horlock and her branch team. This is complex care doing exactly what it should. Stepping up fast, wrapping around the whole family and making the toughest nights feel manageable again.

At CCH Group, People First isn’t just something we say. It shapes how we support the people we care for and the colleagues who work alongside us every day.

As Ramadan begins, we’re proud to stand alongside those observing across our teams and in the communities we serve.

Because being the Best Place to Work in Care means respecting beliefs, listening properly and adapting around what matters most.

Here’s how that looks in practice.

Our Extra Care Schemes support people to live safely, independently and as part of their local area.

This is the difference we make to our residents and the community around them.

Today is Time to Talk Day.

A reminder of how much it matters to pause, check in, and really listen.

Listening is not an extra. It is a skill. It is a strength. It is part of great care.

Every day, our care professionals create safe spaces for people to talk about fears, worries, loneliness, and change.
Those same skills matter inside our teams too. Checking in. Making space. Really listening.

On Time to Talk Day, and every day, we choose a culture that is open, supportive, and human.

At CCH, putting people first is not just something we say. It is how we treat the people we support. And it is how we treat each other.

Great home care does more than support one person. It changes what life feels like for the people around them too.

A family recently messaged our West Lancashire branch about Nicola Hinnells and Caitlin Scott, two CCH care professionals who look after their mum.

They spoke about how grateful they were with her care. How Nicola and Caitlin always listen carefully to their mum, how quickly they notice small changes, and how they are never afraid to raise concerns if something doesn't feel right.

This is what great home care looks like in real life. Care that gives families trust, reassurance, and the space to simply be family again.

Thank you, Nicola and Caitlin, for the difference you make to this family’s life, every single day.
