I’ve just arrived at Bleib Berg Health Resort in Austria for a 2-week Mayr cure.

Here’s what happened on my very first day.

Blood tests, ECG, and a full consultation with the doctor, it’s incredibly thorough.

Would you ever do something like this?

Most people think their gut recovers quickly after antibiotics but that’s not what the latest research shows.

We’ve always said it can take a couple of years for the gut to recover but now we’re seeing it may take up to 4 to 8 years.

Antibiotics can significantly reduce your friendly bacteria, which is why so many people develop digestive issues like IBS afterwards.

Is this you? Did you develop gut problems after taking antibiotics? The effects can be long-lasting, antibiotics taken as a child for glue-ear, a throat infection, a chest infection, a UTI can leave lasting damage if the imbalance is not corrected by probiotics. A study has shown that probiotics can prevent over 50% of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea.

It still mystifies me why GPs in the UK don’t prescribe a course of probiotics alongside antibiotics like they do on the continent. 🙄

As the founder of Just For Tummies, I’m always keen to experience different approaches to gut health first-hand and this is certainly one of them.

Each morning at any of the Mayr ‘cure’ clinics, part of the routine involves taking a small amount of Epsom salts.

Now, I know that might sound surprising if you’ve never come across it before.

It’s not about “flushing” or forcing the body. It’s actually used here in a very controlled way to gently encourage the bowels to empty and support the body’s natural detoxification processes.

Epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) work by drawing water into the bowel, which can help to soften stools and stimulate movement.

But what’s really interesting is how this is combined with the rest of the Mayr approach:

– Eating slowly and mindfully
– Chewing thoroughly
– Allowing proper rest between meals
– Supporting digestion rather than overwhelming it

It’s a very different way of thinking about gut health.

✨ It’s not something I would suggest everyone starts doing at home without guidance
✨ And it’s certainly not a long-term daily habit

But in the right setting, with the right support, it can be a helpful short-term tool to reset the digestive system.

I’ll share more over the next few days about what I’m learning (and noticing).

Still bloated after food poisoning? 👀

For some people, a gut infection can trigger ongoing bloating, even after it’s cleared.

This is often known as post-infectious IBS.

That’s why looking after your gut afterwards really matters 💙

Has this ever happened to you?

Does anyone have a miracle cure for bloating? 👀

It’s a question I see all the time but before you can properly calm bloating, you first need to understand what may have triggered it in the first place.

One of the most common causes I’ve seen over the years is antibiotics.

For many people, their gut is never quite the same afterwards and that’s often when the bloating begins.

That’s exactly why I’m such a big believer in replenishing the good bacteria afterwards 💙

Has your gut ever changed after antibiotics? Let me know below

28 years a naturopath. Heard it all and seen it all.

Appeared on Dragon’s Den. The rest is history.

We have a health issue of almost epidemic proportions, that of digestive and gut disorders.

To help the millions of individuals whose lives are impacted due to a digestive or gut disorder, I decided to set up a community and a targeted range of digestive and gut health supplements to help.

I knew people with common digestive and gut issues were not getting access to good quality information and supplements to help reduce their symptoms. The internet is full of poor quality advice and poor quality supplements. I decided to do something about that! I might write a book about my experiences of being a reluctant entrepreneur one day but, until then I’m busy, building my community, and trying to help as many people as I can enjoy life, free of the burden of digestive and bowel diseases.
