Ducklings

Ducklings Nottinghams Children’s Hospital School - we enhance the future well-being of children & young people unable to attend school due to ill health.

Ducklings is the Charity of the Nottingham Children’s’ Hospital School. the Nottingham Children’s Hospital School are based at Nottingham's Queen’s Medical Centre, part of the Home and Hospital Education Learning Centre (HHELC), and are an Outstanding School (OFSTED March 2010 and January 2013). Our purpose is to enhance the future well-being of children and young people unable to attend school due to ill health. We do this by providing the highest quality education whilst overcoming barriers to learning posed by ill health. We are committed to achieving and maintaining the highest standard of excellence in all we do and are ambitious for outcomes for our students, whilst always being guided by sensitivity. First and foremost, we consistently strive to make the experience of every child or young person in our care a model of quality through careful planning, appropriate teaching and feedback, support and effective communication with health professionals and schools. Every day we aim to improve a child’s knowledge and understanding, their resilience and ambition, helping each pupil to reach their full potential whilst overcoming barriers to learning. We know that it is essential to maintain a compassionate awareness of the anxiety experienced by families with ill and injured children, and an understanding of the impact it can have on the emotions and behaviour of the children and families in our care. Our Registered Charity Number is: 1170283

We can’t believe it! the lovely members of the Wollaton Park Rotary Club have once again supported our charity as part of their annual Wollaton Art Exhibition. They have donated a huge amount - £600 - which will go towards some special Christmas gifts and activities for children at the school. Thanks so much x

Wollaton Park Rotary is thrilled to announce we have raised £600 at this years Art Exhibition for Ducklings! 💖

Your incredible donations mean Ducklings can give each child a personalised Christmas gift and build gingerbread houses with them during their christmas activities

Your support will bring fun and excitement to these children and families during a tough time. 🙏

Thank you all so much! See you in 2026!

We'd like to congratulate Clare Greaves on her Half Marathon, at the weekend, in support of Ducklings. As of today she raised an incredible £1,810.00. We are lost for words!

As we are a small charity, that runs with the help of volunteers, every penny Clare's raised will go towards the kids at the school. Claire's money will help us with the cost of purchases including: specialised equipment, iPads, tablets, musical instruments, bespoke items, short breaks for families, food, theatre visits, family days out, clothing, travel costs to and from the hospital, and even COSTA cards for families who are in hospital for long periods of time while their children are receiving treatment.

Funds like this help us to move quickly when we need to, and provide help as soon as it's needed.

Thank you so much Claire, everyone at Ducklings thinks you're incredible!

Good luck to Clare Greaves who is running the Nottingham Half Marathon, on 29 September, and raising money for Ducklings.

Clare wrote on her Just Giving Page: "Myself and two other members of staff at Lowdham Primary School are running the Nottingham Half Marathon in memory of Henry Bard an amazing little boy who touched the lives of all those who met him. We have chosen to support Ducklings, the hospital school, who supported Henry during his hospital visits. "

Many thanks from Ducklings for thinking of us x

Hi guys tomorrow I'm being filmed by the BBC, it will be an interview at home followed by some filming at queens medical centre as spiderman with some kids. It's really good to be able to get the story out of what I have been doing in hospitals for nearly a decade, the friendships I have made with some amazing children and the stories of how I've been able to cheer them up and supply a nice little bit of joy to distract them from the hospital environment and any pain they are in ❤️🕷🕸

Just a quick post to share a link with you all... about Spiderman (or Dale from Heroes Bringing Hope Foundation). He's one of our amazing trustees, but more than that he runs his own charity which he uses to visit children in hospital dressed as Spiderman, and now Superman as well. Have a read, he's a real life superhero... 🕸🕷💪

Beneath the Spider-Man mask is hero Dale Grounds, 33, who was inspired to put on the disguise eight years ago when his son Reece was in hospital after an asthma attack

An amazing article in the Sunday mirror today about what I do in hospitals and the plans for heroes bringing hope foundation with some lovely words from some of the families I have become close to ❤️ the only thing they got wrong is how long I've done it. It's nearly ten years not four years lol 🕷🕸

Sorry for the late post, but time flies! on Wednesday the 24th we had a Ducklings Summer party for the kids at the school. We hadn't organised one since before COVID!

It was a fantastic party attending by kids, staff, supporters and thankfully the weather just about held off. Included here are a few pics of the event.

So many thanks to all the volunteers that gave their time and helped make this day such a success... also to the performers (and the amazing Ice Cream from Poppy’s ice creams). Some of those involved were: Heroes Bringing Hope Foundation (with Superman and the amazing Spiderman), The East Midlands Garrison with Simon (Storm Trooper), Jayne (Jedi) and Alan (X-Wing Pilot), Freddie Wilkinson the Magician, our singers Steve McGill Steve McGill - Music, Frankie Tavoni, Steve Bloor and our very own Pete from the school.

Here are a few quotes from the day:

‘This is the best festival you’ve ever had!’ Mum who is regularly in hospital with her 8 yo son

‘I love my sparkly tattoos, they make me feel happy’
9 yo A, who was in for clinic

4 yo J- ‘I don’t want to go yet!’

One guest remarked ‘ is she a professional singer? She is amazing!’ Referring to Frankie one of our singers.

On having his picture taken with the Star Wars performers one young lad (only 6 1/2) said it was the best day of his life

Thanks so much for making this a very special event for the children at the school

Full details of the event are on their website, put the date in your diary (28th October). And if you know any artists who might like to exhibit this year register on the website or get in touch with Richard (richard@wollatonartexhibition.co.uk) and share this (or the club's) post. Thanks 😀🎨

Online registration for Artists who would like to exhibit at this years Charity Art Exhibition on Saturday October 28th is now open.

Back in 1999 (when we all partied with Prince), we created our first ever Celebrity Cook Book as a fund raiser for the school... it was a massive success (we even got a whole day on Trent FM and even an interview on Jo and Twiggy's show)... I have a recording of it somewhere on an old tape! This was way before Ducklings. I found this old news article in the loft today and to save it getting lost, I thought I'd post it on here. As you can see it feature Kathy Harwood, Prince Charles and Delia Smith 🙂
