It’s been so long since I have posted on here. I have now been working as a mental health practitioner for 4 years and loving every minute of it. I continue to support our young people and advocate for mental health. I have learnt so much that will benefit First Aid for Feelings.

This week is mental health awareness week, this is a great source of support. ❤️

My mind jars are a great way to empty that bucket and reduce stress, whilst the glitter settles your child can practice their breathing, these are only £6.50 with free delivery, great life skill for our YP to learn. As you can see in the photo, it comes with a poem, a sticker, a breathing and grounding technique.

The stress bucket provides a visual representation of every day and underlying challenges we face, how resilient we are, what coping strategies we have and what happens when the power of the stresses out way the power of coping strategies, the bucket will spill over. I use this analogy a lot with the YP I work with.

It's stress awareness month, so I have created a couple of video's I am going to share regarding stress, I really hope it helps, stress can be really tough but can also be beneficial, I use the stress bucket analogy to explore stress, it's so important to look after yourself.

Ok so it's the 3rd day of talking about worries, so what if that worry is real, is there something you can do about it? If there is you can practice problem solving skills with your young person. Below is a template to do this, it's important for YP to learn how to be independent when problem solving. If an idea doesn't work, what else could they try?

Ok so yesterday we talked about worry, if that worry is hypothetical, a 'what if' worry, it's important to learn to let it go. This can be done by distraction, do something you enjoy, colour, play a game, or you could practice deep breathing to relax the mind. Below I have added a great grounding technique, this technique uses all the senses. My glitter jars are great for calming the mind too. Worrying can cause a lot of stress, it's important to help our young people learn to notice and manage their worries, so over the next few days I'm going to share some techniques and resources. The worry tree is a great tool to share and use, there is a picture below to support you with this. Simply notice the worry, is it hypothetical (what if) or a practical (real) worry? If it's hypothetical, young people need to learn to let it go and refocus, I will talk more about this tomorrow.
