Building on our theme of community spirit we touched on in yesterday's blog post, we wanted to shine a spotlight on three fantastic local groups doing incredible work, every week.

If you are looking to get involved, find support, or connect with like-minded people right here in our area, check out our recommendations below:

St Paul's Boundary Road: A wonderful local hub that serves the community through various activities, events, and support services. It's a great place to meet neighbours and get involved in local life.

Why we love it: Local to Rushcliffe, easy access for all, warm and friendly, very inclusive, events everyday, great cafe (Reasonably priced)

Discover the community at St Paul's Boundary Road here: https://www.stpaulsboundaryroad.com/

Trent Dementia: A brilliant organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people living with dementia, their families, and carers across the region. They offer resources, support, and a vital voice for the community.

Why we love it: Great source of information and resource, warm and friendly people, they are very good at sign posting, connected to the local university,

Find out more about Trent Dementia here: https://www.trentdementia.org.uk/whats-on/

Forget Me Notts (Trent Bridge Community Trust): This fantastic initiative uses the power of sport and community to combat social isolation and support people living with dementia. Their sessions are a fantastic way to connect in a supportive, fun environment.

Why we love them: Often described as a social life line by many, provide a variety of different venues and activities, great place to meet like-minded people, very supportive to its members, warm and friendly.

We are very proud to host our REDS family ❤️

Saturday we were visited by Ed, representing 'Celebrating Rushcliffe Awards' and Rushcliffe Borough Council after hours of practice we decided to ignore our rehearsed response to being shortlisted and spoke from the heart.

We really appreciate the nomination, as we shine a light on the remarkable people in our community, who live with dementia under the age of 65 ❤️

Christmas family game! 🎄Did you know that playing dominoes can be a wonderful way to support cognitive stimulation for people living with dementia?

Dominoes is simple, often familiar, and engaging — and it naturally exercises attention, memory, problem-solving, and visual-spatial skills.

The act of matching tiles helps keep the mind active, while handling the pieces supports fine motor movement. Because the rules are easy and the game is highly familiar for many people, it can spark long-term memory, reduce anxiety, and create moments of confidence and enjoyment.

Dominoes is also a great social activity. It encourages conversation, turn-taking, and shared connection — all of which are incredibly valuable for emotional well-being.

Our top tips for playing with someone with dementia:

• Play as a team if the person needs gentle prompts.

• Clear the table of clutter so the person can focus fully on the tiles.

• Break down their choices or offer simple reminders to help make the next move easier.

• Always let the person with dementia be in control — follow their pace and comfort level.

We hope you have lots fun, remember not to sulk if you lose and create meaningful moments this Christmas 🧡

International Men's Day - Inspire. Lead. Care.

This week, as we celebrated International Men's Day, we recognise all the men we have been fortunate to meet and support.

Living with dementia is often a daunting journey for the whole family, but the ability to keep pursuing joy, maintain a routine faced with challenges, and connecting to others, inspires us all to live in the moment.

Thank you to every man who makes up the heart of our community. Your strength is seen and celebrated!

Our David Lloyd West Bridgford dementia friendship group were all treated to some wonderful enlightenment today!

Anand from Right at Home Grantham, Newark, Melton & Oakham (a qualified Yoga guru) joined us to challenge our wisdom and strengthen our spiritual connections.

We also played some serious Cleggy dominoes and ate delicious sausage cobs.

Keep warm, safe and active everyone! ❤️
