Charcoal.
It looks dramatic. It promises instant whitening. It sells the idea of “natural” brightness.
But many charcoal toothpastes are highly abrasive. They work by scrubbing stains off the surface. That scrubbing can also thin your enamel over time.
And enamel does not grow back.
Once it wears down you may notice sensitivity, a more yellow tone as dentine shows through, or edges that look translucent. Whitening should never mean weakening.
In Beeston, Nottingham, I regularly see patients chasing brighter smiles while unknowingly damaging the very thing that keeps their teeth strong.
If you are not sure whether your toothpaste is protecting or polishing away your enamel, comment CHECK and I will send you my dentist approved recommendations for safer whitening and long term enamel health.
Strong teeth first. Brightness second. Always.
