💁‍♀️ If you're a woman in midlife and you feel like this then don't worry - you are completely normal. There is nothing wrong with you.

In midlife:
➡️ your hormones start to change
➡️ sleep becomes more disrupted
➡️ stress from work, family (kids + ageing parents) peaks

But midlife doesn't need to mean a decline in your health.

It can be the start of a new chapter, a new way of living that truly nourishes your body and mind. 🌱

The first step is self compassion. 🫶🏼

Poor blood sugar balance can affect your:

Concentration
Focus
Memory
Energy
Moods
Stress levels
Sleep
Hormones

And...... if you don't balance your blood sugar most of the time, you are at higher risk of developing many long term chronic illnesses, such as obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, dementia and cancer.

❄️ Winter is time for slowing down and getting more rest.

It's natural for us to want to do less, to reflect and reset, ready for the longer daylight hours of spring and summer. 🌱

💭 Instead of seeing tiredness as a failure, use it as a great opportunity to focus on friendship and connection.

💁‍♀️ How about a simple chat over a cup of tea, or a phone call to someone you haven't see for a while?

Get active outside - it is good for you in so many ways.

For your physical health, it can

• increase your physical activity and fitness 🏃‍♀️
• boost your immune system 📈
• improve your sleep quality 😴
• lower your blood pressure 📉

For your mental health, it can

• reduce stress 🧘‍♀️
• improve mood and lower anxiety and depression 😊
• improve attention and memory 🧠
• enhance overall wellbeing and happiness 😁

Why does everything feel harder than it used to? 😫

I eat dark chocolate every day, 2 or 3 squares is enough to satisfy my need for something sweet!

Switching to dark chocolate is good for you - here's why:

❤️ it is high in nutrients, heart healthy fats and fibre
❤️ it contains antioxidants to prevent damage to cells
❤️ it's good for your gut health
❤️ it could support heart health and blood pressure
❤️ it could improve your cholesterol levels (as long as you don't eat too much!)

If that’s you, please know this:
nothing is wrong with you.

Midlife is often when years of responsibility, stress, and emotional load finally catch up with the body. ⏳

What you’re feeling isn’t weakness, it’s overload. 📈

You’re not failing.
You’re carrying a lot.

💬 Let’s talk weight loss.

If you want to lose weight, you may be tempted by GLP-1s, weight loss drugs, such as Mounjaro, Ozempic or Wegovy.

🤔 It seems like an easy, quick fix, but is it that simple?

You will almost certainly lose weight - the drugs reduce hunger and slow down digestion and gastric emptying.

BUT, this can mean

➡️ side effects, such as low energy, low moods, bloating and nausea
➡️ significant financial cost, unless prescribed on the NHS
➡️ risk of losing muscle mass

Evidence shows that as soon as you stop taking the drugs, you are likely to put most of the weight back on, especially if you have lost muscle mass.

💁🏼‍♀️ What is important when you’re taking GLP-1s?

✅ Drink plenty of water
✅ Prioritise eating protein to protect muscle mass
✅ Regular resistance/strength training
✅ Prioritise eating fibre, to help with digestive symptoms
✅ Get support

If you are taking weight loss drugs, then NOW is the time to think about building healthier diet and lifestyle habits, for your future beyond the drugs.

Why I don't eat 'low fat' any more.

Low fat foods have been promoted as 'healthy' for years, but are they really?

🤔 Did you know that getting enough healthy fats in your diet is actually ESSENTIAL for good health?

Why?

✅ Healthy fats are great for heart health, lowering the risk of stroke and heart disease.

✅ Your brain is 60% fat - healthy fats are essential for brain health and function, and may lower your risk of depression and dementia.

✅ Eating healthy fats helps you feel full for longer and balance blood sugar.

✅ Omega 3 fats help to reduce chronic inflammation in the body.

✅ Healthy fats are essential for both hormone and cell production, s*x hormones like oestrogen and testosterone are built from cholesterol and fats.

Instead of cutting out fat, switch to healthier fats - extra virgin olive oil, avocado, nuts, seeds and oily fish . 😇
