💬 Let’s talk weight loss.
If you want to lose weight, you may be tempted by GLP-1s, weight loss drugs, such as Mounjaro, Ozempic or Wegovy.
🤔 It seems like an easy, quick fix, but is it that simple?
You will almost certainly lose weight - the drugs reduce hunger and slow down digestion and gastric emptying.
BUT, this can mean
➡️ side effects, such as low energy, low moods, bloating and nausea
➡️ significant financial cost, unless prescribed on the NHS
➡️ risk of losing muscle mass
Evidence shows that as soon as you stop taking the drugs, you are likely to put most of the weight back on, especially if you have lost muscle mass.
💁🏼♀️ What is important when you’re taking GLP-1s?
✅ Drink plenty of water
✅ Prioritise eating protein to protect muscle mass
✅ Regular resistance/strength training
✅ Prioritise eating fibre, to help with digestive symptoms
✅ Get support
