We regret to inform you that our first ‘Eating Disorder’ Support Group scheduled for this evening has been cancelled because of the current weather conditions.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we will be posting details for the second session in the next few days!

This week is National Eating Disorder Week and to raise awareness, The Vale Centre will be holding its first Eating Disorder Support Group on Thursday 9th March 2023 from 19.00 till 20.00.

The sessions offer a safe, non-judgmental space to share your thoughts, feelings and challenges with others who have similar experiences. We will keep the group small in size to ensure that everyone feels comfortable speaking and sharing at a level that feels right for them (even if, for you, that means just listening).

A ‘Lived Experience’ Survivor will present on the first session to share her story!

In order to know how many group members will be attending, it would be helpful if you could message us on valecentresherwood@gmail.com although this is not essential!

A cover charge of £5.00 to include refreshments and room hire.

If you would like to speak confidentially with a Clinician/ Therapist the please call 0115 962 5665
for an appointment.

To whoever needs to read this today...

It can take time to heal and in a lot of cases time is not
necessarily a healer. Reach out and talk to someone, that could be a friend, family member, your GP or a professional.

Following on from yesterday's post about the easing of lockdown, we recognise that these changes may cause a lot of stress, anxiety and worry.

We are still living through a period of extreme uncertainty, so building or maintaining a healthy lifestyle and mindset can help.

We wanted to share some tips on Managing Your Stress, with a few simple steps.

1. Take it Slow:
Firstly, remember that it’s completely understandable to have a mixture of highs and lows. Don't force yourself into 'getting back to normal', give yourself time to adjust.

2. Only Make Changes You Are Comfortable With:
Take it step by step, and only do what you feel is comfortable and safe for you. Whether that's keeping your mask on in the supermarket or saying no to meeting friends or family in a restaurant, until you feel comfortable.

3. Stay in Your Own Lane:
Don't compare yourself to others, everybody is dealing with this pandemic (and stress and anxiety in general), in different ways, so do things at your own pace but try to remember to extend that same curtesy to your friends and family too.

4. Exercise and Eat Healthily:
All types of exercise help to increase your brain’s production of endorphins, the 'feel good' hormone. This could mean going for a walk, doing some yoga or even gardening.
Eating healthily can reduce the symptoms of stress so try to get your 5 fruit and veg a day, eat plenty of protein, reduce your caffeine / alcohol intake and try remember to drink plenty of water.

5. Seek Help:
If you are struggling, it is ok to ask for help. A good place to start is by talking to a friend or family member, speaking to your GP or reaching out to
a professional therapist or practitioner.
