I don’t usually post about personal things, but this one felt important...
Yesterday, I completed my first ever marathon.
I never really saw myself as someone who could do something like this, yet it’s been sitting at the back of my mind for years.
Even just saying that out loud makes me wonder: ‘’what made me believe I didn’t belong in that category?''
Standing there at the start line, surrounded by thousands of runners, I still questioned whether I was cut out for it. Months of training, doubts, and conversations with myself: ‘’Can I really get to the end?’’
As I ran, I found myself reflecting on why everyone else might be there too, some running for charity, others for a personal challenge. Maybe some just needed an outlet, a target, or something that gave their week a bit of meaning.
I chatted to a few runners along the way. When I asked for their best piece of advice, most said: “Run with others.”
Yet there I was, running alone, and realising how much inner strength it takes to keep going by yourself, and how powerful it is when you find something that helps you do that.
Everyone has their own version of a marathon, whatever the challenge looks like.
I’m constantly inspired by my clients who step outside their comfort zones, face their vulnerabilities, and keep showing up for themselves, whether in the counselling room or in life.
Message: Never underestimate yourself.
You are capable of more than you think.
Sometimes the things you do just for yourself are the things that keep you going, even when its hard.
