A burn injury can result in skin loss, therefore a dressing is required to act as a ‘temporary skin’ as a barrier to infection until the burn is fully healed 🩹

Putting ice on a burn is harmful because its extreme cold can cause cold burns and further tissue damage by restricting blood flow, which delays healing and increases the risk of infection. Instead of ice, you should use cool, running water 🚰

Rubber deteriorates over time so old hot water bottles can burst or leak and cause serious burns. Always check for signs of wear and tear regularly, and keep an eye on the flower symbol which indicates exactly when it was made 💦

Today is Burns Awareness Day! 60% of all under 3 paediatric burn attendances to A&E Departments are due to a hot drink burn. Avoid drinking hot drinks around children, and never carry, or pass a hot drink over the heads of young children ☕🍵🫖

It's Burns Awareness Day this Wednesday! If you sustain a burn injury never put ice, cream, butter, lotion, or toothpaste on, always remember to COOL the burn, CALL for help, and COVER with cling film or a clean non-fluffy dressing or cloth 💧
