Following last years success, Nottinghamshire Funeral Service and Gedling Crematorium are excited to announce our Easter Egg Walk on April 4th 2025! Starting at 11am from NFS Arnold, we'll follow the route shown on the poster, spreading joy and collecting Easter eggs and cash donations along the way.

Our goal is to gather as many Easter eggs and donations as possible to bring smiles to local care homes and hospices. The Easter Bunny will be joining us on the walk and will make a special appearance, so don't miss out on the fun!

After the walk, the Easter Bunny will return to NFS to greet everyone and accept further donations. Let's come together, smile, wave, and spread the word to raise lots of Easter joy for our community! 🌸🐣

Today we're taking a moment to appreciate the rich history of the English language. It's amazing to think that the word 'funeral' has been around for over 600 years!

The English word 'funeral' is believed to have originated from Geoffrey Chaucer, who is considered by many as the father of the English language.

In his Middle English work, The Knight's Tale, Chaucer used the term 'funeral servyse' to refer to the ceremony held in memory of a character who passed away.

This work was published in 1386, making it the earliest known use of the word 'funeral'.

Yesterday, Bella, our bereavement therapy dog, was present at the final goodbye of a loved one at Gedling Crematorium, upon the request of the bereaved family.

The funeral service was attended by young children who were deeply affected by the loss of their loved one. Bella's gentle and calming presence provided comfort and reassurance.

You see, Bella isn't just any dog. She has a unique gift for providing solace and reassurance to those in need. Her non-judgmental and affectionate demeanour is a source of comfort to anyone who is having a hard time dealing with their emotions. And at funerals, her presence can make a world of difference for families and children alike.

If you'd like to meet Bella and experience her calming presence for yourself, you can find her at our Arnold Branch on Front Street.

The poem "Let Me Go" by Christina Georgina Rossetti is a beautiful and deeply moving exploration of the difficult subject of death and the transition to the afterlife. The speaker expresses a heartfelt desire for a peaceful and serene departure, without any unnecessary mourning or rituals. The poem highlights the inevitability of death, and the importance of coming to terms with the journey as a natural part of life's greater plan.

"Let Me Go" speaks to the raw emotions surrounding loss and the need for acceptance, offering a message of comfort and hope. Despite its Victorian-era context, the poem's timeless message of transcendence continues to resonate with readers today. It reminds us to approach life's challenges with grace and compassion, and to find strength in the knowledge that all things are part of a greater whole.

Stress Awareness Month has been held every April, since 1992 to increase public awareness about both the causes and cures of the modern stress epidemic.

According to the Mental Health Foundation 74% of UK adults have felt so stressed at some point over the last year they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope.

What could you do for Stress Awareness Month?

*Talk about stress and its effects - talking about the topic openly and freely with friends, family and colleagues helps to reduce the stigma associated with stress.

*Share your coping mechanisms – if something has worked for you, why not share it? This may benefit someone you care about and in the meantime, it might help you take your focus off your own challenges.

*Be nice to those who are stressed and anxious – we are all undoubtedly going to experience stress and anxiety in our lifetime so treat others going through it with compassion and empathy.

*Look after yourself – we all need to think more about self-care. Take time out of your day to relax or do something that you enjoy. Don’t forget to exercise and eat well, even when you feel too stressed.

Remembrance Day, observed on November 11th, is a solemn occasion to honor and remember the sacrifices of military personnel who have served and continue to serve their countries in times of war and conflict. We pause to reflect on their bravery, commitment, and the profound impact their actions have had on our world. Let us never forget their dedication to preserving freedom and peace.
