One of my favourite aspects of nutrition coaching behind rehabilitation is performance coaching.

Looking at fuelling for all aspects of training, peak performance for race day, competitions or major events and refuelling for athletic recovery and on to the next stage of the performance cycle motivates me to help athletes outperform themselves over and over again.

If you've plateaued, are looking for that edge or are just looking to better understand sport nutrition get in touch with Katie, she's experienced working with recreational to elite athletes.

Are you wanting to take steps towards regulating your eating habits but aren't ready to reach out for help?

Here are 5 steps towards overcoming binge eating:

1. Ignore diet culture / fad diets and quick fix promos. Take time to scroll through your news feeds and unfollow any accounts that promote any of the above or any accounts that trigger feelings of self doubt, shame, low self worth or hopelessness. UNFOLLOW then thank us for it afterwards.

2. Stay Hydrated. Drinking throughout the day can stave of cravings, reduce your chances of overeating in binge cycles by making you feel fuller but most importantly helps you feel better, more alert and decreases the risk of headaches and sluggishness that contribute to low mood and increased risk of binge cycling.

3. Increase protein intake. Ensuring you consume your recommended daily amount of protein can keep you feeling full, helping regulate your appetite, leading to weight loss while building more lean muscle (recomposition). Increased protein intake also helps boost your body's recovery processes and rebuilding of tissue.
Protein also helps with hair growth, healthier skin and nails.

4. Increase fibre intake. Supplementing with fibre or consuming more in your diet can increase satiety reducing hunger pangs that can lead to binges.

5. Starting your day with a meal. Eating breakfast is one of the easiest ways to regulate your food intake throughout the day. Starting off with a starvation period will quickly lead to hunger pains and binges later on. Eating little and often throughout the day is a good way to keep your energy levels steady throughout the day avoiding crashing, burning and a following g binge.

If you'd like more information or help with any of the above please don't hesitate to get in touch.

While the above strategies can help there are always healthcare professionals available to support you if you feel you can't take steps to recovery on your own please reach out to your GP or loved ones if you don't feel able to ask for professional help.

Tonight's dinner 😍. As a cook, I love making food, as a human being I love eating food and as a nutritionist I love having the knowledge that

1) If you understand your macros, your basal metabolic rate and have a general understanding of calorie counting and balance with energy expenditure that you can eat the good things without guilt or ruining your goals.

2) You can improve not just your body composition but your quality of life by understanding better the health properties of the foods that you eat, from alertness to productivity, the quality of your complexion to your flexibility.

3) You can live life without restriction and still achieve progression. This one for me is key to educate on as restrictions / starvation / binge cycles can be so damaging. Not only to your mental health but your physical condition, organs and destroy your metabolism and quality of life and very rarely lead to sustainable change so the restriction period is so often followed by a binge cycle or just habit slip back to another damaging yoyo cycle.

If you want a hand with understanding food better, understanding and guiding to reach your goals why not reach out?

Nutrition Coaching is a quality investment and you will come away with more than a diet plan or recipe book but the knowledge and tools to sustain long term change and improve your quality of life for the long run!
