🎆 Protect Your Eyes This Bonfire Night! 👓
Bonfire Night is one of the most exciting evenings of the year — glowing fireworks, crackling bonfires, and sparklers lighting up the night sky. But while it’s a time for celebration, it’s also a night when eye injuries become much more common.
👁️ Why Eye Safety Matters
Every year, hundreds of people across the UK suffer eye injuries caused by fireworks.

🔥 Our Top Eye Safety Tips for Bonfire Night.
Keep your distance. Always watch fireworks from at least 25 metres away and follow the safety guidelines printed on the packaging. The further you are, the lower the risk of sparks or debris reaching your eyes.
🥽 Wear protective eyewear. If you’re lighting fireworks or helping with the display, wear safety glasses. Even small particles or smoke can cause irritation or injury.
🎇 Handle sparklers safely. Sparklers burn at over 1,200°C — that’s hotter than a blowtorch! Always hold them at arm’s length and never give them to young children.
👁️Avoid rubbing your eyes. If you get smoke, ash, or debris in your eyes, don’t rub them — this can make things worse. Instead, rinse gently with clean, lukewarm water and seek advice if irritation persists.
🎆Supervise children closely. Make sure children are always supervised around fireworks and bonfires, and remind them not to pick up spent fireworks or ashes.

👀Be cautious with contact lenses. Contact lenses can trap small particles or smoke, which may cause discomfort. If you’re attending a display, consider wearing glasses for the night instead.

🏥Act quickly if an injury occurs. If something enters the eye or an injury occurs, do not attempt to remove it yourself. Cover the eye lightly, avoid applying pressure, and seek immediate medical attention or visit A&E.

🎇 Enjoy the Show — Safely!
A little preparation goes a long way to keeping your eyes safe this Bonfire Night. If you experience any irritation or injury, our team at Jaysons Opticians is here to help. We can provide advice, emergency appointments, and aftercare to keep your vision protected.

👁️✨ From all of us at Jaysons Opticians have a safe and sparkling Bonfire Night! 🎆

Children's Book Week 2025

👓 Did you know that up to 80% of a child’s learning happens through vision?

📖 Common signs your child may need an eye check:

👁️Squinting or tilting the head while reading

📚Complaining of headaches or tired eyes

📖Holding books too close or far away

📚Avoiding reading or short attention span during reading time

👁️ A simple eye exam can make a big difference!
Clear vision helps children stay confident, engaged, and excited about reading.

🧠 World Stroke Day – 29th October 2025 🧠

Today marks World Stroke Day, a reminder that stroke can happen to anyone, at any time — and recognising the early signs can make all the difference.

At Jaysons Opticians, we want to highlight an important connection between your eyes and your overall health. During a routine eye examination, our optometrists can sometimes detect changes in the small blood vessels at the back of your eyes. These changes may indicate issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, or circulatory problems — all of which can increase the risk of stroke.

👁️ Eye tests aren’t just about clearer vision — they can offer vital insights into what’s happening elsewhere in your body.

✨ Your eyes are a window to your health — book an eye exam and take a step towards stroke prevention.

Don’t wait until symptoms appear. A simple check-up could help protect your sight and your health.

📞 Call us or book online today to arrange your next appointment with Jaysons Opticians. Together, we’ll help keep your vision — and wellbeing — in focus.

👀 October is Home Eye Safety Month! 🏡✨

Did you know that almost half of all eye injuries happen at home? From DIY mishaps to cooking splashes, cleaning chemicals and gardening, our eyes face more risks around the house than we might think.

🔍 Some eye-opening UK facts:
🇬🇧 Around 30,000 people in the UK each year need medical help for eye injuries caused by DIY or home improvement projects.
👧 Nearly 50% of children’s eye injuries happen at home.
⚒️ About 1,000 serious eye injuries occur in children and teenagers every year — often from play, sharp objects, or accidental trauma.

🧤 Simple steps to protect your eyes:
✅ Wear safety glasses during DIY or gardening
✅ Keep sprays and chemicals pointed away from your face
✅ Don’t rub your eyes if something gets in them — rinse gently with clean water instead
✅ Make sure your home lighting is bright enough to prevent eye strain and accidents

💡 If you do experience an eye problem — we can help.
At Jaysons Opticians, we offer the CUES (Community Urgent Eyecare Service) for minor eye conditions, including:
👁️ Red, sore, or watery eyes
⚡ Flashes, floaters, or sudden changes in vision
💥 Foreign bodies or minor injuries

This NHS-funded service gives you quick access to expert optometrists — often without needing to see your GP or go to A&E.

Your eyes are precious — protect them at home, and trust Jaysons Opticians to care for them when it matters most.

📍 Visit us or call today for advice or to book a CUES appointment.

🌍👁️ World Sight Day 2025 — Love Your Eyes 💙

Every October, the world comes together to celebrate World Sight Day — a reminder to take care of our most precious sense: our vision.
This year’s theme, “Love Your Eyes”, encourages everyone to prioritise eye health through regular check-ups and healthy habits.

👓 Your eyes deserve your love and attention!
Here are a few ways to care for them every day:
1️⃣ Get regular eye exams – Even if you think your vision is fine, early detection can prevent serious eye problems.
2️⃣ Protect your eyes from UV rays – Always wear sunglasses with proper UV protection.
3️⃣ Take screen breaks – Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
4️⃣ Eat for your eyes – Include leafy greens, carrots, and omega-3-rich foods in your diet.
5️⃣ Stay hydrated and rest your eyes – Good sleep and proper hydration keep your eyes healthy and bright.

💬 This World Sight Day, book your eye test and show your eyes some love.
✨ Because when you love your eyes, you’re investing in a lifetime of clear vision.
