After heavy delays in being published, the LeDeR report which looks into causes of death for people who have a learning/intellectual disability has been revised as deaths of people had been mis recorded. The figures show preventable deaths were actually more than 40% rather than 38% (around 20% in the general population.
1 in 4 people who have Profound and Multiple Disabilities dies from treatable conditions (1 in 23 in the general population).
Down syndrome continued to be written as cause of death, masking the true reasons why people died such as delayed access to tests and diagnostic over shadowing.
"If the NHS cannot even count these deaths accurately, how on earth can we trust them to stop them"
