Last week we were proud to host a very special event at George Eliot Hospital, marking the final donation from the local charity B.A.S.I.C.S, with £30,000 gifted to support our Cardiac Care Unit.

For more than three decades, BASICS has quietly but powerfully shaped patient care at George Eliot Hospital. This collective of local businesses and individuals has donated over £500,000 since the 1990s, funding vital equipment for our Cardiac Care Unit and Cath Labs, from vein finders to monitors and so much more. Their generosity has touched thousands of patients and families across our community.

A huge part of this story is Jean Whittaker MBE, the former Head of GEH Charity. Jean dedicated 40 years to the hospital and is fondly remembered by colleagues and the wider Nuneaton community. Her leadership and passion have been at the heart of BASICS’ incredible impact, even after her retirement a decade ago.

Dr Ashok Venkataraman joined us on the day to receive the cheque on behalf of the cardiac team, and plaques have now been installed as a lasting reminder of the support BASICS has provided.

Adam Carson, Acting Chief Executive of George Eliot Hospital, said: "The generosity shown by BASICS over more than 30 years has made a profound and lasting difference to the care we provide."

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Molly Knowles, a Clinical Nurse Specialist, who became our latest DAISY Award Honouree. 💙

Molly received two nominations back in January celebrating her compassionate approach to care. One of Molly's nominees described her as “the definition of what a specialist nurse should be: a compassionate expert who treats the person, not just the disease.”

Well done Molly! 🌟

The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honours extraordinary nurses and midwives who go above and beyond to provide exceptional care and compassion to patients and their families.
If you know someone who's made a difference to your care, you can nominate them on our website https://ow.ly/bX1u50YmUPK
