A huge thank you to everyone last night who took part in our major incident exercise to practice our interagency working, major trauma skills and scene management.
It was an incredible night that saw 15 prospective medical students from Oakham School get made up by sfx artists and put old clothes on donated by East Kent Schoolboy Motocross Club, before getting into cars very kindly donated by Seaton Scrap Yard and delivered by Morris Motors.
We then had over 40 emergency service workers respond from Rutland Community First Responders, Oakham Fire & Rescue Station, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Uppingham Fire Station, Stamford Fire Station, our own ambulance crews and flagship REACCT Team (Rutland Emergency and Critical Care Team).
It was great for all people involved to experience the challenges of working in a fast paced, dynamic scene, particularly our CFR colleagues who do not usually respond to trauma or road traffic collisions, so gave them a unique insight into how it differs from their usual incidents, and the care trauma patients require.
For our medical teams, training nights like these are essential to ensure we are operationally ready to provide unmatchable care no matter what happens at our events. Whether it be a stadium tour, international motorsport racing or a mass gathering cultural event, our teams will likely be the first medical assets on scene and being able to react instantly and effectively is crucial.
Our sincere thanks to the local residents and businesses for their understanding while we made a lot of noise and mess, and appreciate all the help from local media teams promoting the event for public safety and highlighting the great work our colleagues from other organisations do.
We would also like to note and thank the incredible generosity and support from so many individuals and businesses which meant this exercise was possible.
For those wanting to see, official media will be released in coming days.
