β οΈ Avoid driving through standing water. Depth can be hard to judge, turn around if you are unsure
β οΈ Driving through flood water creates a bow wave, which can push water into homes and cause damage. Please do not attempt it
β οΈ If surface water does not drain away after rain has eased, report a blocked gully via the flood report form on Rutland County Council website: www.rutland.gov.uk/flooding
β οΈ If water is entering your property or there is an immediate risk to life, call 999
β οΈ Do not walk or drive through flood water, it may hide hazards such as missing covers or debris
β οΈ Do not ignore road closed signs or flood boards as these are in place for your safety. Roads will be reopened in a prioritised manner when safe to do so
β οΈ Keep clear of fast-flowing watercourses and ensure children stay away from swollen brooks or streams
β οΈ Allow extra time for journeys, drive slowly, increase stopping distances and take care on rural roads
β οΈ If you are responsible for a watercourse, check it is clear of debris where safe to do so
