Animating this was a special experience because I actually got to film myself doing the very thing for my daughter, Lavender.

This was one of my longest animations ever shared at just under 20 seconds, and because of that I thought to myself: “I don’t think it will get watched all that much”.

This animation reached millions of people around the world, I had the honor of showing it in a festival, and now im working on more. I never expected that this feeling would be so universally shared by so many. And I believe it to be the exact thing Mr Skelly is meant to represent.

This is meant to be a showcase that death is not this scary thing we’ve been told all our lives that it is. I personally don’t believe it to be the end, but a door to whatever’s next. I don’t believe in the endless demise of this world, I cling to hope in pursuit that it brings out the best. That hope is a harder calling to answer than despair, it is easy to give in to the belief that everything sucks and is terrible, I spent too much of my life in that mindset - there are few things I regret more.

Thank you for sharing with me, for being here with me, to those who have lost children, those who have lost their parents, loved ones, friends, thank you for enduring, for still being here. For believing that hope is the triumph of grief, that not understanding is okay, even magical. That not all of life’s details can be reasoned or explained with rationale.

Here is to hope.
