Exciting news! 🎉

We're excited to introduce Lyndsey as our first ever Foodbank Services Lead here at Oldham Foodbank.

Lyndsey will be keeping things running across our warehouse and foodbank centre, looking after our amazing volunteer teams and making sure everything ticks along nicely, whether that's packing food parcels or getting deliveries out to people's homes.

Big congratulations to Lyndsey, and here's to an exciting chapter for the foodbank! 💚

Do you know what social prescribing is?
Social prescribing is help that doesn’t come in a pill, tube or bottle. Bury's social prescribing team, who work across Bury GP practices, have been running a weekly social group for men called Broken Biscuits.
“I wouldn’t be here without this group.” said Paul from Prestwich, who says that social prescribing support and the camaraderie of a local men’s social group has saved his life. Another member, Mick agrees. The former veteran who struggles with PTSD and other health conditions, said: “We’re all a little bit broken, but the benefit of having a welcoming group – whether we want to talk or not – cannot be underestimated.”

Celebrating Social Prescribers Day 💚

At Oldham Family Practice, we feel incredibly privileged to work alongside our social prescribers, they are not an “add-on” to what we do, they are a fundamental part of how we care for our patients.

They bring a level of humanity, compassion and understanding that reminds us daily that health is shaped by so much more than clinical need. Behind every consultation is a person navigating life, and often, it is our social prescribers who help us truly see and support that whole picture.

Working closely with myself, my business partner Dr Lucy France, all of our Oldham Family team and as part of our wider Oldham Action Together partnership, they connect patients into their communities, reduce isolation, and help people find strength, purpose and practical support in ways that traditional healthcare alone cannot achieve.

They sit at the heart of truly integrated care, bridging the gap between general practice, community services, often quietly, but with enormous impact.

What stands out most is not just what they do, but how they do it:
with patience, with kindness, and with a deep respect for the individuals and communities they serve.

In a system that is often under pressure, they bring balance. In moments where patients feel lost, they bring direction.

And in a model of care that is evolving, they represent exactly what the future of healthcare should look like.

Today is a chance to pause and say thank you all, not just for the work you do, but for the difference you make every single day.

We truly could not do this without you.

This is what a typical morning looks like at Oldham Foodbank.

Volunteers sorting donations, shelves being stocked, parcels being packed and loaded into trolleys ready for delivery. It never stops.

Our volunteers give their time freely and we couldn't do this without them. But the gaps on these shelves? We fill those with money — £75,000 last year alone.

Regular giving is what keeps this running. It's what lets us plan ahead instead of scrambling week to week.
