Little Therapy Space Women’s Health Therapist specialising in Pregnancy, Postnatal & beyond through treatments & courses

I am a Clinical massage and Myofascial body worker specialising in chronic pain. I use a range of different techniques to ease pain - by not only treating the pain but by also trying to find what is causing the pain and treating that. I am also qualified to treat Pregnant and postnatal clients who are suffering with discomfort.

We talk a lot about engaging the pelvic floor muscles and contracting them, also known as doing ‘kegels’.

Having a strong pelvic floor throughout our life is essential and we need this during pregnancy, labour and our postnatal life as well as the rest of our lives!

To be able to ‘birth’ our baby vaginally we need to be able to soften and lengthen our muscles and many mums find this hard.

Why? Because we spend our lives with our body switched on and a lot of us grip our tummy muscles, pelvic floor, inner thighs and glutes. Allow a ‘release’ to soften and lengthen can be really hard.

Practise breathing in and on an exhale just allowing this softening and lengthening to happen.

Save this video so you can practise the moves throughout your pregnancy and postnatal life. These are especially useful if you’re struggling with leaking or mild incontinence.

If you join my pregnancy or postnatal exercise classes we go through these a lot….they are key to helping your mobility and strength 💪🏻

Come make my massage bed with me!

I use a lot of layers 😆 in truth I like it to be a certain way!

Soft, comfy and warm….hence two electric blankets!!

I like the bed to feel ‘dressed’ and I want my clients to walk in and really want to lie on my bed ❤️

Have you had a massage with me? How did my bed feel?

I have had the greatest pleasure of treating a lot of ladies with C Section scars over the years. It does however seem more lovely ladies have had Abdominal Births in lockdown for whatever reason and I’m loving helping them.

But do all scars need treating?

Often it’s not the scar itself that’s causing an issue but the ‘front line’ of the body that has adhesions or restrictions. Some ladies feel this ‘pull’ immediately and some not for months or years afterwards. Some never actually realise that the restrictions they are feeling are caused by the scar or the operation itself.

I met a lovely lady who came for a Postnatal C Section session due to feeling some discomfort recently with certain movement. My treatments always include an assessment of a client’s posture, alignment and with their consultation I get a good idea of any issues before I use my hands to assess. I really don’t have a routine...our hands can tell us so much!

I did find a few small issues with her scar with some ‘hardening’ above and below but also some issues within her tummy muscles and her rib area. We also noted that she had really tight, rounded shoulders and I thought that could be due to feeding and carrying a little one as well as working at a desk.

Having treated her initial issues I worked my way to her shoulders to find them completely released! Having released the tightening in her scar and abdomen that had also released the issues in her shoulders! She hadn’t realised quite how much her scar and the operation itself had affected her posture and her body.

Our bodies are amazing. They manage to keep going by compensating in a variety of ways to keep us upright and moving and functioning. This lady’s body had done just that ♥️

If you fancy booking a session with me you can do so on my website www.mothermassage.co.uk or through the ‘book now’ button! I’d love to see if I can help you in some way!

🌟 Massaging your C Section scar 🌟

Many mums leave hospital unsure what they should be doing with their scar. There is a lot of information online but not all of it is helpful!

I like to keep things really simple as I have found these work best.

Firstly you do not need expensive oils to massage the scar. Our bodies are able to heal wounds with time and we cannot rush this process.

What we can do is help our body heal by accepting the scar, showing it some love and allowing it some time.

We firstly need to desensitise the scar and the whole area and using a soft muslin is a great way of doing this.

Once we have done that we can work above and below the scar as in the video always supporting the scar as we go.

Once we feel comfortable with that and the scar is healed completely we can use the pads of our fingers on the scar almost like we are playing a piano, gently moving the fingers.

Always work without oil or creams initially and then follow up with something like Rosehip oil or wheatgerm oil both containing vitamin E and neither are expensive.

If you’re unsure of how to move forward with your scar, want a 1-1 session or want a treatment from me please book in and I can help you with this.

Often 1 session is enough and I always recommend leaving at least a month if not more between sessions to allow the body to take the treatment on board and the scar tissue to keep moving.

Recently I seem to have had so many lovely clients coming in and apologising for one thing and another.

Apologising for being a few minutes late and turning up frazzled

Apologising for not doing enough exercise to help them ‘bounce back’ (I hate using that phrase)

Apologising because their underwear doesn’t match or they forget to put ‘decent’ ones on

Apologising for having some extra weight they haven’t had time to lose yet

Apologising for not having the time to practise the rehab work I had set them, or watching the videos to prepare for a course

Apologising for being so tired because they had a disturbed nights sleep

Please remember when you enter my room you are not being judged in any way.

None whatsoever.

I have been through that time too and I still remember how it feels so I am always impressed that you have managed to get out of the house and what underwear you chose to wear doesn’t alter my treatment!

I am beyond happy you have decided to find some time for you and I will endeavour to make that time as special as I can for you

Please know that if you chose my room to have your cry, your moan or offload you will not be judged. You wont be the first and you wont be the last I’m sure! My room seems to have this affect sometimes and I see it as an honour that you feel able to share and feel comfortable enough to do so.

So please, know that you will be welcomed into my room and you have no need to make any apologies for anything…..we are who we are….all muddling along and trying to walk our path and remain sane!

🌟 Can you please help me? 🌟

Small businesses are struggling at the moment and I think things are going to get harder.

We are all having to cut back and budget and keeping me in your budget may not be a necessity any more and I understand that.

But if you want to support me and what I do you can help me in different ways which will help boost my viewings on social media and help me be ‘seen’.

Even a comment on a post is going to help someone else ‘see’ me. Sharing with friends and family will help. If you want to see everything I post click on the 3 dots top right hand corner and make me a favourite.

Thank you to each and every one of you who already does this and supports who I am and what I do. I couldn’t do this without support and I am so very grateful 🙏

🤱 How soon after giving birth can I have a massage?

Something I’m often asked by new mums. For a variety of reasons. So why would you want/need a massage after giving birth?

I have specialised in Pregnancy, Labour and Postnatal Massage. I have the qualifications and the experience to be able to provide treatment throughout this stage and as early as a Mother would like to receive it.

In some cultures women are massaged after giving birth with beautiful oils to soothe, nurture and treat the body. Easing any aches and pains and using the hands with the oils to calm and soothe the body after it’s hard work of labour.

During labour the body works hard to give birth....and even if the labour was a smooth and easy one, giving birth is called ‘labour’ as that’s what it is. The Mother has to work mentally, physically and emotionally and it can take its toll.

Post birth the levels of Oestrogen plummet within 24 hours to a similar level as that of Perimenopause and that can cause issues. Progesterone levels also drop, so the body is not only dealing with low levels but also an imbalance between the two. This can play havoc on the body.

We know that women can struggle with Postpartum depression, not helped by Progesterone being out of balance and anxiety or low mood can take hold.

Lack of oestrogen Postnatally can cause similar symptoms to the Menopause such as fatigue, irritability, vaginal dryness, night sweats, dry skin and achy joints. Our bodies can struggle physically, emotionally and mentally and yes a treatment can help as well as the time for calm, quiet and reassurance it can provide.

Having a massage at this stage is not a luxury and shouldn’t be seen as one.

Whether you have had a vaginal birth or an abdominal birth I will cater the treatment to your needs on that day after listening to how you are feeling. You are safe in my hands 🥰

🌟 Postnatal Massage 🌟

Giving a massage to a Mother who has given birth whether recently or several years ago is absolutely not just another massage.

I take into account what her pregnancy was like, her labour, her 4th trimester and piece it together to give her the session she needs physically and emotionally.

I am not trying to help this Mother return to the woman she was because she will never be that person. After each birth we grow a little seeing the world through different eyes, having experienced something no one else will experience in exactly the same way and it reshapes us all! Physically and emotionally.

But this session is about resetting, reshaping and growing and supporting this Mother in whatever way she needs to do this ❣️
