Caveman Conditioning: Why Sports Science Matters for YOU!

Ever wondered why we emphasise athletic movement at Caveman Conditioning, even if you’re not a professional athlete?

The sports science model requires an evidence-based approach. This means understanding physiology, biology, biomechanics, and sound coaching. And that’s exactly why you can benefit from this approach.

We are all built the same, and while we might not move as quickly or lift as heavily as elite athletes, the principles remain the same. Think of it like this: a wing mirror on a Formula 1 car versus your standard hatchback—they still do the same job.

LIFT phase Part 4.

This is the fourth and final phase of our LIFT program at Caveman - the stage where complete, long-term musculoskeletal health really comes together.

If we want to be genuinely fit, healthy and robust humans, we can’t live forever in the world of 3 sets of 8–12 reps.

High-volume training served its purpose: it built the structural base. Now it’s time to shift into the High-Intensity Phase - the place where real strength is developed.

And here’s the key:

✅ Getting stronger doesn’t mean being out of breath.
✅ Strength isn’t built through fatigue it’s built through intensity, focus and force production.

High-Intensity Lifting Will:

👉 Improve your ability to handle, transfer and produce force
👉 Directly enhance your function in training, sport and everyday life

As we age, we naturally lose fast-twitch muscle fibers - the ones responsible for producing force. This is why high-intensity strength work becomes more important, not less, as the years go on. Ignore the stereotypes (and maybe your aunt’s advice): lifting heavy is essential as you age.

Of course, intensity must always be paired with quality. In a well-coached environment, you lift heavier with good technique, appropriate loading and the right level of intent.

This marks another chapter in the complete, long-term training plan we build for our members - one focused on sustainable health, strength and lifelong wellness.

Meet Jan & Jules.

They didn’t fancy it this morning - it was wet, a tad cold, and foggy. To be honest, they turned up miserable as sin.

BUT, they did the hard bit - they showed up when they didn’t feel like it, they got stuck in, and just look at them afterwards
.a little bit less miserable.

You can’t guarantee you’ll be up for it every time, but you can guarantee you’ll feel so much better for it afterwards.

Caveman Member Shoutout - Jan Lyons.

A huge shoutout to long-time Caveman member Jan Lyons, who recently took on the incredible challenge of climbing Mount Everest.

Despite being forced to cut the journey short due to sudden altitude sickness, Jan tackled everything the Himalayas could throw at her - from crater-filled roads and dizzying bridges to the world’s most nerve-racking airline.

Her courage, positivity, and sense of adventure sum up exactly what we admire about her. Jan’s always been there to support others, share a laugh, and bring great energy to the Cave. We couldn’t be prouder to have her as part of the team.

At Cave, you really can have your cake and eat it. No, seriously, we do it all of the time - especially when it’s a birthday.

This week the ‘young coach’ took another step towards not being so young, so had to lead from the front and take care of the cakes - mainly to avoid the double standards of mildly abusing others who avoid cakes (or just bring rubbish ones - you know who you are).

Unreal gems from Locanda Gabriella for taking care of the goods, but what else would you expect from a team of Cavers?!

It wouldn’t have been a birthday without a famous ‘Poppy’ cake either, so big high fives for that also.

We’re not another bootcamp. Our coaching philosophy is all about individualised, evidence-based training; a refreshing change from most gyms and fitness operations.

We’re not obsessed with before-and-after pictures – and we encourage our members not to be either. Instead, we focus on the stuff that really matters: long-term, sustainable, holistic changes to promote a healthier mind, body and lifestyle all round. (A better ‘after’ photo is a benefit, but it’s not the goal.)

We train hard but we train intelligently. We’re not cheerleaders or sergeant majors. Instead of shouting, we educate and encourage. That’s how we build relationships and trust. Here, you’re not just getting your heart going – you’re learning physical and emotional resilience, building confidence and genuinely having fun.

With every workout we strip things down to fundamental movements to “undo” the damage of modern life (yes, we’re looking at you desks and cars). We’ll get you moving, sweating and thinking in completely new ways, and the principles we teach can be for the whole family: mum, dad, kids, grandparents – everyone.
