Our maternity services are reminding expectant mums to protect themselves, their baby and other’s if they or a member of their household has been exposed to a ‘Rash’ or if anyone in their household have ‘Slapped Cheek’.

Lead Midwives at the Western Trust Brenda McClafferty and Brenda McCabe wish to ensure that this message is shared with woman availing of maternity services. Brenda McCabe explained: “It is important to remember that some rashes in pregnancy are contagious and may cause harm to your baby. We are asking expecting mums to help us protect you, your baby and others by stopping the spread of these infections.

Brenda McClafferty added: “If you have been exposed to a rash or have a rash please contact your community midwife. Please do not attend antenatal clinic appointment unless you have contacted the clinic first to ensure it is safe for you to attend. The contact numbers for your antenatal clinics are located in your green maternity hand held records’’

“Both Lead Midwives would like to Thank you for your cooperation.”
