You can usually treat a cold or flu at home without seeing a GP. Here are some things you can do to help you get better more quickly:

βœ… DO:
Get plenty of rest. Take paracetamol or ibuprofen to lower your temperature. Drink a hot lemon and honey drink to soothe a sore throat. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

❌ DON'T:
Give aspirin to children under the age of 16. Smoke as this can make your symptoms worse. Give honey to babies under 12 months.

It’s Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week.

Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) that can cause gut inflammation and painful ulcers.

Symptoms can be similar to other conditions, so don’t try to diagnose yourself. See your GP if you're worried about symptoms.

πŸ€’πŸ’§ Vomiting and diarrhoea affect both children and adults, but the risks and care needs can differ. Here’s what to watch out for and how to respond 🧠

πŸ‘Ά Children vs πŸ§” Adults - What’s Different?

Children:
‑ Dehydrate more quickly - loss of fluid builds up faster
‑ More vulnerable to electrolyte imbalance
‑ May refuse drinking or have a harder time telling how they feel
‑ Risk signs: dry nappies, sunken eyes, irritability, listlessness

Adults:
‑ Might manage symptoms longer before seeking help
‑ Risk of complications if they have chronic conditions (e.g. diabetes, kidney disease)
‑ The underlying cause can vary (infection, foodborne, side effect of meds)

βœ… What to Do (For All Ages)
πŸ›Œ Rest & stay home
πŸ’§ Sip small amounts of fluids frequently
🍚 Once able, introduce bland, easy-to-digest foods
🧼 Wash hands often, especially after bathroom or caring for sick
❌ Avoid preparing food for others until 48 hours after symptoms subside

⚠️ When to Seek Medical Help
Watch for these red flags (in both children & adults):

β€’ Persistent vomiting or diarrhoea lasting more than a few days
β€’ Blood in vomit or stool
β€’ Unable to keep fluids down
β€’ Signs of dehydration (dizziness, extreme thirst, low urine output)
β€’ High fever or unexplained pain
