With less than a month until the Budget on 26 November, we are calling on the government to urgently review the impact of the cuts made to the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASGSF) in April this year, and to confirm funding levels for next year that will meet the needs of eligible children as part of any budget decisions.
Evidence collected by campaigners Action against ASGSF changes https://asgsfprotest.com/ representing 777 children and young people showed:
98% of families reported the new reduced limit was not sufficient to meet their needs
36% of families have been forced to choose between an assessment of needs that would help inform the most appropriate type of therapy for their child or therapy for their child
81% of respondents stated that the cuts to the ASGSF had a very negative or negative impact on their child’s mental health
Please consider writing to your MP, asking them to write to the Minister for Children and Families, Josh MacAlister MP, and the Chancellor, calling on them to review the impact of the cuts, and to commit to a permanent fund that ensures the needs of all children who are adopted and in kinship care are met.
