Winter is coming, and it is important to make sure your workplace is ready.

Keeping everyone safe should be priority, and a little preparation goes a long way.

Pay special attention to

Making sure pathways and car parks are slip-free
Christmas decorations are put up in safe, heat-free spaces in the building
Outside work staff are well equipped with thermal layers and PPE
Work vehicles and fleets are checked, and have winter kits for emergencies

According to HSE data, working on trees is inherently risky when done at height.

Installing or decorating large Christmas trees (especially real ones) can count as “tree work” and should follow strict safety practices (competent contractors, proper risk assessments).

Here are 5 tips for putting up the work Christmas tree lights safely

✅ Check the tree & weather before starting.

✅ Use proper ladders or lifts — no chairs!

✅ Team up: have a spotter.

✅ Use outdoor-rated lights & secure cables.

✅ Take breaks & keep first aid nearby.

A quick reminder!

As most of the autumn leaves are falling, a good weekly practice is to stay on top of clearing them.

Pay particular attention to:

🍂Steps
🍂Walkways
🍂Car parks
🍂Fire exits
🍂Entrance ways
🍂Delivery bays
🍂Drains and grids
🍂Warehouses (How annoying when they all blow in through the shutter doors!)

Fallen leaves + rain make it slippery underfoot, and if not cleared by the time the temperatures drop in winter, the ice can make life extremely difficult to walk ok

A leaf blower or rake should do the job in keeping you and your team safe.
