You don't need me to tell you that life is better when you've had a good night's sleep. But a lot of people struggle to get enough sleep, so here are 5 simple tips to make sure you fall asleep and stay asleep:

1. No caffeine after 3pm. After the initial energy boost, caffeine still stays in your system for up to 6 hours. Stop drinking coffee, tea, green tea and energy drinks mid-afternoon to ensure your sleep hormones can do their thing later in the day.

2. You've heard it before, but try not to be on your phone or tablet in the hour before bed. Not only does the blue light they emit disrupt your sleep hormones, but falling down a scroll hole is a sure fire way to miss your bedtime.

3. Have a nice warm shower or bath before bed - this has been shown to help you to fall asleep faster.

4. Keep your feet warm - it's often difficult to fall asleep when your feet are cold. Bedsocks rule.

5. And last but not least, actually go to bed! Sounds simple, but how many times have you stayed up late to watch one more episode on TV, or to finish off one more task. Get ready for bed, go to bed on time, and reap the benefits.

💥 A 31 page personalised nutrition pack to give you everything you need to get started with losing weight and building healthy habits.

💥 Recipes and meal ideas, to show you that eating healthily can be delicious and enjoyable.

💥 Optional body composition analysis, including body fat and muscle levels.

💥 Access to me, a qualified personal trainer and nutritionist, seven days a week, to keep you on track, keep you motivated, and answer any food or exercise questions you may have. I am the personal trainer for people who don't like personal trainers - I'll never judge you, shout at you or make you feel useless.

Personal training sessions can be either at Core Gym Oswestry, at Spartan Training Centre, Ruabon, at your home within a 5 mile radius of Oswestry, at my private garage gym in Whittington, or via live video call, so it doesn't matter where in the country you live - there is a training option for you.

All of this costs just £64 (for the video call, home visit or Whittington gym options. The cost for the Challenge with sessions held at Core Gym or Spartan Training Centre is £84) .

Fire up your core with this weighted ab workout!

Work every ab in every direction - no equipment needed, although you can increase the difficulty by using a 1kg, 2kg or 3kg dumbbell. Takes about 11 minutes to complete.

Workout:

10 reps (per side where applicable):
1. Double crunch.
2. Leg raise to sit-up.
3. X-plank (1 x 30 sec).
4. Sit-ups.
5. Starfish crunch.
6. Russian twist and punch.
7. Nasty combo.
8. Forearm plank with forward reach.
9. Sphynx pose with leg raise.
10. Squat to side crunch.
11. Anti-rotation hold (alternative: side plank) 1 x 30 sec each side.

Exercise can play a key role in helping to manage the pain of osteoarthritis, but most personal trainers don’t have the specialist knowledge to properly help people who have arthritis.

I have recently completed this excellent course on how to create effective personal training sessions for people with arthritis, so that they can improve the way they feel without creating any further pain.

That is what I love so much about my job - there is always something new to learn so that you can help people to lead happier lives ☺️
