Colour charts!!

Moving on from snipping, you can cut a few times along these colour charts and the card paper makes it easier to mange than paper. Don't worry if your child is not ready to cut along the white line inbetween the colours quite yet, just let them cut across the width of the colours until they are. Left over card will make a lovely rainbow or mosaic picture

Ready to move onto scissors??

Cutting paper straws is a nice way to introduce your child and only worry about "open and close" the blades. Verbal reminders are still very useful. Leaving you with lots of pieces of straw to make a pretty picture!!

Once they can open and close their blades they can move onto more exciting things.

If you are still unsure your child will be safe with scissors there are lots of "safe" scissor options out there, like these play dough scissors.

Remember to teach thumb up and index and middle finger underneath. Helping hand holding the play dough - to start with you may need to hold the play dough. Don't worry too if their elbow is sticking out this will come, they are concentrating on lots of things at one time here!!

Doing well with tweezers ?? Move onto these fun scissors and eat up lots of pom poms!

Remember thumb at the top, index and middle finger underneath. Put a sticker on the thumb to help remind your child.

Getting your little one ready for scissor skills!! Its good to start early, once they are at school (4yrs old) scissors will be out and about so teach them some safety skills now.

To help develop the ability to open and close the hands (ready to use scissors) - play with tweezers and pom poms, you might need to help them open and close their little hands at first and using verbal reminders will also help. Add colour matching to make it more purposeful

Fun cheap pre-schooler activity to prompt using two hands together, develping finger strength, pincer grasp (thumb and index grasp) , you could also do counting and leaning colours etc with it. Pop it on the table while you are finishing off meal prep to keep them calm!!

I love this game - it is over 20 years old and some how I still have all the worms - great for pincer work (thumb and index finger grasp) but also colour matching, counting, you could also practice turn taking and many other thing with this game or just hide the worms deep in some play dough and dig them out !
