April, but make it bold!

This month’s cover page is all about rich, vibrant colour — inspired by the colour combo for April of Early Sunrise, Rhubarb Jam and Anthracite. I love how the warm oranges and deep fuchsia pop against that grounding dark green… it feels so full of energy and contrast.

As always, I started with a magazine page as my base (forever my favourite shortcut!) and built up layers with stamps, papers and embossed vellum — featuring those beautiful tulips from the LHC Year in Bloom embossing folder set. The title is cut from a Cloud 9 inky background using the LHC tall and skinny alphabet and number dies, and I added a die cut tulip from the LHC Tulip Bouquet layered floral set as the focal point, blended in this month’s colours.

I’m honestly in love with how this page came together. Even though my monthly covers follow a similar composition, it’s so fun to see how completely different they feel just by changing the colours and focal details.

Do you stick to a consistent layout in your journals, or do you switch it up each time?

When a tattoo becomes therapy in the very best way 🌻

This little sunflower holds so much more than just ink. It holds years of navigating chronic illness, of learning who I am as a mum, a wife, and a person still quietly grieving the life I once imagined.

In my 20s, at the very beginning of it all, I chose a tiny tattoo that simply said hope. Back then, hope meant getting through, holding on to the idea that things might go back to how they were, or that I might overcome it all. That tattoo has faded over time… but maybe it was meant to.

If I could go back and speak to that younger version of me, I’d tell her this: hope may anchor the soul, but it’s faith that sets it free.

Now, years later, that faith looks different. It’s faith in myself. Faith that I can keep going, even on the hardest days. Faith that there is still beauty here — even when life doesn’t look the way I once thought it would.

This sunflower is a marker of that shift. A new chapter. A celebration of now. The joy that still exists, the resilience that’s grown quietly in the background, and the strength in making the invisible visible.

Thank you so much to my incredibly talented friend and tattoo artist Finelines Peterborough — you captured everything I felt but couldn’t quite put into words.

Sometimes healing doesn’t look like fixing… sometimes it looks like honouring the journey 🌻

March, you felt like a breath of fresh air.

This cover page is my little celebration of spring — inspired by the soft yellows and fresh greens of daffodils, and that feeling of everything starting again.

I built the page around a beautiful magazine image (sometimes they make the best backgrounds!) and layered it up with bits from my stash — stamps, papers, and one of my favourite details… embossed vellum featuring the daffodils from the Year in Bloom set by Lisa Horton Crafts

The title was cut from a Cloud 9 inky background using the tall and skinny alphabet and number dies — adding just the right pop to bring it all together.

There’s something about these colours that feels hopeful, light and full of possibility… exactly what I want March to be.

Do you tend to reflect the seasons in your journaling too?

During our last show, Dean Wilson and I found ourselves chatting about the idea of stamping with coffee… and it really got me thinking!

So I decided to give it a go — and the background for this card has actually been created using coffee instead of ink. It gave such a soft, organic feel and worked beautifully with the Texture Spills and other elements from the Muse & Maker collection by Lisa Horton Crafts.

I’ve also included a few pieces from the second release (which launches on Friday), including that lovely focal heart, embossed with the Muse & Maker embossing powders. And of course, it felt only right to finish with a coffee-themed sentiment!

I chose a slightly moodier, more masculine palette using Cloud 9 inks — garden sage, woodland moss, dolphin grey, inclement weather and anthracite — which really complements the background.

This was such an enjoyable card to make and a great reminder that creativity doesn’t have to follow the rules. Sometimes it’s those little experiments that spark something new.

I’d love to hear — have you ever used something a bit unusual in your crafting?

Such a lovely way to spend the morning!

We headed out to mark Sizdah Bedar and let our sabzeh drift away in the river — a little tradition to wash away any bad luck and start the new year feeling fresh.

There’s something really simple but special about it. Just being outside, taking a moment to pause, and letting go of anything we don’t want to carry forward.

Here’s hoping for a year full of good things ahead. Happy Nowruz 💚

“But You look well.”

It’s something that’s often said with good intentions… but when it comes from a medical professional, it can land very differently.

Because the truth is — how someone looks on the outside is only ever a tiny piece of the picture. So many people are navigating exhaustion, chronic conditions, mental health struggles, pain, or overwhelm that simply isn’t visible.

Hearing “but you look well” in those moments can feel incredibly dismissive. It can make people question themselves, downplay their own experiences, or feel like they’re not being fully heard or taken seriously.

Wellness isn’t always something you can see. And illness doesn’t always look how we expect it to.

What people often need in those moments isn’t reassurance based on appearance — it’s to be listened to, believed, and supported. To feel like their experiences matter, even if they don’t fit neatly into what we think “unwell” looks like.

This is about awareness. About recognising the impact our words can have, especially in spaces where people are already feeling vulnerable.

A small shift in language can make a big difference.

Just something that’s been on my mind 🤍

I wanted to share a few of the samples I created using Release 1 from the Muse & Maker collection by Lisa Horton Crafts.

This collection has been such a joy to work with. The designs have that beautifully distressed, weathered feel which makes them perfect for layering and building texture. What I really love is just how usable the whole range is — the stamps and stencils work together so naturally, which makes it really easy to experiment and create different looks.

I had so much fun playing with the layers while making these pieces. You can start simple with a few stamped elements and then keep adding stencils, inks and textures to build depth. It’s one of those collections that really encourages you to explore and be creative.

If you enjoy crafting with products that are versatile, inspiring and open up lots of creative possibilities, I’d definitely recommend taking a look at the range.

This collection is all about distressed, weathered designs and the kind of creative freedom that makes mixed media lovers very happy. If you enjoy layering, texture, and a touch of shabby chic style, there are so many possibilities within this range.

Being on set with my wonderful teammates Lisa and with Adam, Simon (my lovely husband!) and Barry producing and directing the show, was such a joy. The atmosphere was full of creativity and laughter — exactly what crafting should be.

Stamping was my very first crafting love, and it still holds such a special place in my heart. Getting to demo and play with a collection like this felt like a real full-circle moment.

If you missed the show, you can catch up over on Lisa’s YouTube channel.

One of my favourite spreads from January. I’m still not over how beautifully this page came together. I used lots of gorgeous floral stickers from The Happy Planner paired with matching boxes and little elements, and the colours just sing together.

Sometimes a page simply clicks — the palette, the balance, the layers — and this one feels like pure happiness every time I turn back to it. It’s such a lovely reminder of how colour and creativity can lift your mood.

My February cover page is officially in the books and I loved every second of making this one. I leaned fully into the heart theme and had so much fun building up playful layers — a magazine page, labels and tickets, plus a stitched frame shaker with embossed vellum (all Lisa Horton Crafts, of course!). I finished it off with hearts and washi pulled from my ever-growing mountain of scraps.

This was also my colour combo of the month project for using Cloud 9 inks in rustic coral, antique pink and dolphin grey. I adore how soft but joyful this palette feels — it’s the perfect way to welcome February into my Hobonichi.
