Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) recognizes OxPal’s work in their recent article.

The link to the article is pasted below.

As OxPal has been working tirelessly with its partners on finding opportunities to Gazan medical students to pursue their medical education journey, we have established the Medical Community Outside Gaza (MCOG) for this line of work in our community. Following the arrival of 27 medical students from Gaza to Cape Town, South Africa to complete their medical education, UCT releases this article stating the nature of this program.

FHS recognizes what OxPal has been doing over the past 9 months communicating with universities in the region and worldwide and proceeding to potential routes for the Gazan medical students to finish their medical education.

We thank all our partners who helped make this true, and of course our dear students for their resilience and commitment.

Hi everyone and assalaamu alaikum,

Journal club will be resuming next week Thursday 23rd November 9AM (Jerusalem time). Dr Kate Hooper, a neonatology registrar who used to train in Oxford will kindly be leading the session. I hope it will be interesting for anyone interested in neonatology or research (or both!). I have asked Dr Hooper to make the session interactive, so please do try to join the zoom call and get involved – it should be a really useful opportunity to practice reading and evaluating clinical trials, which is such an essential skill for future doctors to develop.

Here is the link to the zoom call: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81905357448?pwd=ZUlqbytzdFk3cmh2NWtjNjZyWEV4UT09
Please also join this whatsapp chat to keep up to date with journal club activities: https://chat.whatsapp.com/Baj2JX6yQpE8oRRQDveivg

Please try to read this paper beforehand:
Two-year outcomes following a randomised platelet transfusion trial in preterm infants.
Moore et al., 2023.

I would like these sessions to be as useful as possible and I will be using the whatsapp chat to send out details of each journal club and also ask for feedback and ideas for future sessions. I realize not everyone will be able to make the session because of the dire situation in Palestine; I will not be recording the next session because I would like everyone to feel comfortable answering questions and getting involved, but I will try to make notes for those who cannot make the session. There should also be opportunities to attend the journal club in the future.

Feel free to message me on the whatsapp chat if you have any questions/ideas/concerns. Look forward to seeing some of you at journal club next week.

- Iman, Journal Club Coordinator

We are honored and pleased to share with you what has been going on lately.

From November, 17th to December, 23rd, 2022, the Interpretation Skills Course had over 100 Palestinian medical students participating with astonishing performance while attending and interacting during all lectures of the course (Interpretation of ABGs and VBGs, Chest X-Rays, ECG, and Blood).

All thanks and regards to Dr. Oday Hamad, MD, who is Teaching Assistant at Al-Azhar University - Gaza for being the tutor throughout the entire course.
That being said, we hope to get to meet you all on other occasions within OxPal.

Hi everyone!👋

We are excited to announce our next journal club meeting, on the 18th of February at 4pm (Palestine time). In this meeting, we will be discussing tuberculosis, how it presents, how it is diagnosed and how it is treated.🤩

We will also be discussing a paper written by two students in Palestine looking at medical students’ knowledge of tuberculosis. This journal club meeting will be an opportunity to revise this important topic.😍🔥
