All Saints Sisters of the Poor

All Saints Sisters of the Poor We are a dispersed Anglican religious community of women. In Oxford, the Sisters pioneered several programmes. We are active in our local parish.

We have a house in West London and our Sister who is a priest lives in Chichester Diocese. We have an active ministry . In 1879, the All Saints Sisters of the Poor were invited to run St John’s, a hospital on a four acre site in Oxford, and we have been here ever since. The community consists of five sisters in life vows, one of whom is undertaking ordained ministry in London. These include Helen House and Douglas House (hospices for children and young adults), and also The Porch (support for the homeless and vulnerably housed). Within the grounds, St John’s Home now provides independent residential care for the elderly, while Helen House, the world’s first children’s hospice, welcomes children with life shortening conditions, with their families. Douglas House offers the same care for young adults. We provide the peace and enjoyment of the grounds and gardens for residents and families visiting St John’s Home and adjacent Helen and Douglas House Hospices. We offer hospitality to groups and individuals, including those who want an alongsider experience. Pastoral visiting, preaching, public speaking and spiritual direction are some of the ways we live out our calling.

So fortunate with the weather today when we went to Kew. Very mild and so enjoyable to have a leisurely walk around. It is an easy bus journey for us and while there bumped into friends from our parish - several times! Thank you, Lord, for our day of refreshment.

Jean with our friend Katinde after Mass yesterday and the service of Remembrance. So good to see so many people in church for this, remembering the sacrifices made by so many - and which continue today.
