Rest is a great investment. It doesn't have to be boring! Rest is different for different people, depending on your individual circumstances.
Rest can be sitting or strolling in nature, it can be doing a craft activity, it can be giving yourself permission to have self care, it can be mediation. It is basically whatever makes you feel better. It is a good idea to have a variety of rest activities in your toolbox, so you can switch it up depending on your energy, mood and needs.

We have found that a good way to incorporate rest in your day is to make it a priority, plan it in first, then plan activities around it. Also, setting a timer to remind you to rest proactively can prevent overdoing things.

The Magic Healing Power of Gratitude
Did you know that gratitude is the fastest way to shift our mood and regulate the nervous system. It can feel like a ‘big ask’ to be grateful when you are struggling with symptoms and missing out on normal life. But it works so definitely worth developing a daily gratitude practice.
Where do you start ??
Louise Hay taught us to start with being grateful for our breath, our warm bed, hot running water! ( She points out that just a few hundred years ago even kings and queens did not have a flushing loo or hot water on tap) we don’t give it a thought ! So start every day with what and who you are grateful for and feel the difference in your body.
I’m sharing this photo of Chartwell Gardens. I was so grateful to be able to walk in this wonderful autumn sunshine on Sunday. Today I am grateful for waking up to a brand new day.
What are you grateful for today ?

Reflecting on your day and thinking about what actually happened and what went well, can be a great tool for your health and wellbeing toolbox. It can shift the mind from a negativity bias mindset to a more positive state. The more we do this, the more we strengthen neural pathways, reinforcing the good.

Today, I listened to my body and had a gentle morning and a productive afternoon. I had a lavender and magnesium bath, a healthy breakfast and went to sound bath. I chose this as I felt a little tired after my busy day in Cheshire yesterday. I am so grateful that The Chrysalis Effect Program has taught me how to be more connected with myself and how to pace myself. This awareness enables me to intercept things at an early stage and prevent situations where I burn out and crash, which was a repeated pattern historically. This afternoon, I have been to the allotment and cleared 2 beds ready for winter. This enabled me to get gentle movement and mindfulness into my day. It is also very therapeutic clearing the old and making way for the new. The old me may have seen this very differently. My narrative may have been, "I've not been able to do much today as I was too tired". The more I tell myself I am tired, the more I am likely to feel tired. On the other hand, I may have pushed these feelings away and powered through. I am so grateful that I am in a position to honour my needs and keep well.

I'd love to know what has gone well with you today.

So what has gone well for you today?

How do you continue to do the things you love if you have a chronic condition like CFS, Long covid, Fibromyalgia or ME?
Do you schedule rest?
Do you adapt your activity?
Do you drop other things?
Do you do it for less time?
Do you ask for help
Have you changed the types of activities you do?
Do you use assistive aids?
We would love you to share you hints and tips, so that we can inspire others

Whilst I am fully recovered, I still prioritise my lifestyle so that I can do everything I want and remain healthy. I've had a really busy week, I have run a forest school for 2 days, I have travelled to Cheshire and been on a long walk with my grandchildren, I have spent a day at our allotment and tomorrow I am doing an art class over in Cheshire with mum. Some of these activities help me to recharge and rest. For example, art helps me to rest and be mindful, whilst enjoying the process. Being in nature and at my allotment helps me to calm my nervous system and process my thoughts. However, today, I am intentionally "resting". This has involved getting up a little later, reading, doing my social media posting, lying and listening to an audiobook, pottering round the house and folding clothes, putting my diffuser on and making my environment smell calming, making simple and healthy food and meditation. I no longer feel guilty for these simple acts of kindness to myself today and throughout the week. I know that this will help me to carrying on showing up for others. I would have never imagined that I could have the energy to live such a balanced and fulfilling life when I was unwell.
If you would like support with achieving balance and regaining energy to do the things you love, you could consider enrolling in The Chrysalis Effect Program and join, our friendly, positive supportive community.

This month, we would like you to consider what you will say no to?
Will you say no to
-people pleasing
-people pushing your boundaries
-unhealthy food
-unhealthy relationships
-worrying thoughts using your energy
-falling back into old habits
-stress
-more stuff

Setting intentions is a great way to initiate change. This is all very well and good when you have unlimited energy. But when you have a condition like Fibromyalgia, long Covid, ME, or CFS if you are not careful, setting intentions can also give you more things added to your to do list. So this month, we would like you to consider how you set intentions. Can intentions involve less, freeing space for more energy and joy.
We would love to know your thoughts
Have a great month

As the season is turning and the trees are putting on a beautiful show of releasing all their old leaves, in readiness for rest and renewal. It’s a great metaphor for our lives. What do you find the most challenging ? The letting go of the old? The resting ? Or trusting that their is a new life beyond where you are now? Elaine Wilkins.

Healing does not happen overnight. Things that lead to chronic exhaustive conditions have often been building up for a while. We often have to peel back these things layer by layer. It may be a combination of physical, psychological and social factors. It is not a linier process. This can be hard for people who often are type A personalities, or may have traits such as neurodivergence. But people who have succeeded with our program say it is worth the wait. They come out feeling like they are truly themselves, they have a deep inner connection and are able to live their best life.
