Trauma Care was founded in 1996 to address the need for commonly agreed standards of best clinical practice in the management of trauma.

We are the UK's leading trauma charity. Our aim is to help you help those in need. Trauma Care is the leading trauma charity. We are the only organisation that embraces and teaches all healthcare professionals in the care of trauma victims, from roadside to rehab. We were founded in 1996 to address the need for commonly agreed standards of best clinical practice in the management of trauma. We aim to improve the outcome of the trauma victim by establishing best practice throughout the whole chain of care. We achieve this through education, research and publishing. No other organisation encompasses the diverse specialities involved in care of trauma victims from the moment of injury, to the return to active life. We will help you help those in need.

💚 At this year’s 28 Annual Trauma Care Conference, we were honoured to present Dr Richard Williams OBE TD MBChB FRCPsych(Hon) FRCPCH MRSPH DPM DMCC MIHSCM, Emeritus Professor at the University of South Wales, with the esteemed Trauma Care Fellowship Award.

The Trauma Care Fellowship recognises exceptional contributions to Trauma Care, including leadership, education, and long-standing service to the field.

A former military and NHS psychiatrist, Richard has been a dedicated supporter of Trauma Care for many years. He has played a pivotal role in shaping our conferences, particularly through his leadership of the mental health stream and his commitment to advancing understanding in this vital area.

Following his delivery of this year’s David Alexander Memorial Lecture, Richard now steps back from his involvement - leaving behind a lasting legacy of impact, insight, and dedication.

We are incredibly proud to recognise his outstanding contribution with this honour 💚

🧠 Building on recent webinars from the NICE Head Injury guideline lead and a geriatrician specialising in falls, this session brings these ideas together into a practical approach for emergency care.

Jack will explore whether we need to rethink chronological age, what defines an older adult, key clinical risk factors for significant head injury, the impact of anticoagulants, working with JRCALC, and what we know about unwitnessed falls in care homes.

🎓 Jack Barrett is a Paramedic Senior Research Fellow specialising in prehospital emergency care and traumatic brain injury, with a PhD focused on improving decision-making for older adults following head injury.
