One thing I see quite a lot of at work is worn ferrules with some of our patients that have walking aids.

When the rubber has been rubbed away it provides a lot less grip, particularly at this time of year when it can be cold, slippery and wet, so it’s really important to check them regularly and make sure they still have good grip and are not perished. It's very common to see them completely worn through and have a hole in the bottom!

Please check your walking aid or please check on behalf of your relatives/friends as this can be an obvious falls risk.

The staff will be checking within the clinic and we will happily provide you with replacements if requiring a new ferrule!

We are currently recieving lots of interest regarding our new lower limb vascular assessment and I believe it will be of benefit to many. I am not aware of any other podiatry clinic in the country that offers this service. Sarah Levio is running the clinic and she was one of the pioneers in regard to the use of Kardia as an assessment tool within the podiatric setting. Below is an article documenting her initial research in this area.

The service not only looks at screening for irregular heart beats but also assesses arterial supply (blood being taken away from the heart) to the lower limb using the ABPI test and can detect those with peripheral vascular disease. The symptoms of which may include cramp in the calfs, something called intermittent claudication, to other clinical signs such as discolouration or cold feet.

The appointment also assesses venous return (blood taken from the extremities back to the heart) and an evaluation can then be made for whether the patient may benefit from treatment.

If you would like to call the clinic to discuss whether tou may benefit then please contact us and we can arrange you to speak directly with Sarah on 01803 525533.

Are you suffering from cold feet, discoloration or cramp in the calf?

We are excited to announce the latest addition with the revolutionary Kardia device. This cutting-edge tool is set to significantly enhance our commitment to delivering top-tier patient care, offering a new level of diagnostic precision and treatment efficiency.

The Kardia allows us to monitor and assess heart rate and rhythm, which can be crucial in providing a comprehensive evaluation of your overall health. With this technology we can detect any cardiac irregularities which could potentially impact your health.

At The Foot Clinic we are dedicated to ensuring that you receive the highest standard of care, and we continually strive to stay at the forefront of medical technology. Our adoption of Kardia is just another step in our journey towards achieving that mission.

The consultation also assesses for changes to the circulation to the feet. Studies have found that about 20% of people aged over 60 years have some degree of peripheral arterial disease. Incidence is high in people who smoke, people with diabetes and people with coronary artery disease. If you think you have a poor blood supply contact us for a vascular assessment.

We are really happy to be the match day sponsors for Torquay United on boxing day against division rivals Weston-super-Mare!

Hopefully Torquay will eventually be back in the football league sometime soon and we will support them until they are rightfully back where they belong. See you boxing day!

Here is a peak at our advert in the matchday program and thank you to Matt at bayside graphics for putting it together and doing such a great job as always.

We are looking to begin with a new service within the clinic that assesses not only measuring (ABPI) for potential vascular disease but is also able to screen for arterial fibrillation and follows on from some of the work that our new podiatrist Sarah Levio has been involved in!

We will provide more information when the new service is up and running and have provided a link below. Thank you

Are you suffering from a ganglion cyst?

Ganglion cysts are fluid-filled lumps that can cause discomfort or pressure and can be found on various locations upon the foot and ankle.

Our approach here at the foot clinic include:

Evaluation and diagnosis to confirm the cyst via clinical evalution and diagnostic ultrasound.

Non-surgical options like aspiration can be performed with the use of ultrasound within the clinic.

Referral onwards can be made if aspiration is not possible with view to having a surgical opinion.

For more information please call 01803 525533 or book online!
