People often talk about time as if it is supposed to fix everything. As though enough weeks or months passing should automatically make things easier. But emotional pain does not work like that. There is no deadline on grief, trauma, anxiety or loss.

If you are still struggling, it does not mean you are stuck or doing something wrong. It means something affected you deeply, and it may need care, space and support rather than pressure to move on.

If things still feel heavy, you do not have to carry that alone. Our team is here to support you.

As January goes on... and on, many people notice just how long and emotionally demanding this time of year can feel. The slower pace, darker days and pressure to feel renewed can quietly weigh on your mood, even if you have been managing on the surface.

Support does not have to wait for a breaking point. It can be something you consider gently, at your own pace, simply because you want things to feel more manageable or supported than they do right now.

If you are thinking about getting support, we welcome you to reach out and take that step when you feel ready.

A huge thank you to from Pauline's Plants for donating spring seed kits for local families 🌱

We have a limited number to give away to families with children who may be facing food poverty (rrp £19.99).

If this would help you (or someone you know), please message us, and we’ll share how to collect one. No judgment, just a bit of practical support from the community.

Thank you again, Pauline, for helping families grow their own food this spring 💚

Anxiety and depression can affect anyone, and the signs are not always obvious. Feeling constantly on edge, low in mood, or emotionally drained can start to impact daily life, relationships, and work, especially during the winter months when energy and motivation are often lower.

If you are struggling with anxiety or depression in South Devon, it can help to understand what you are experiencing and know where local support is available. Reaching out early can make a real difference, helping prevent things from becoming more overwhelming over time.

We have shared a new blog that looks at common signs of anxiety and depression, why January can be particularly challenging, and where to find support locally.

January can feel heavier than expected. The return to routine, darker mornings, financial pressure, and reduced energy can all contribute to anxiety or low mood, even when nothing specific feels wrong.

This time of year often brings a sense of slowing down after a prolonged period of effort. Motivation may dip, emotions can feel closer to the surface, and everyday tasks may take more effort than usual. These responses are common and understandable during the winter months.

If anxiety or low mood is affecting your day to day life, we are here to listen and support you.

Could You Be Our Volunteer Handyman Hero? 🔧

We have a favour to ask our wonderful community...

As a registered mental health charity, we're always working hard to keep our clinic on Hyde Road running smoothly for the hundreds of people who walk through our doors each year seeking support for anxiety, depression, trauma, and more.

We really could do with some practical help to maintain our eight treatment rooms and keep our space as welcoming and safe as possible for our clients and therapists.

We're looking for a volunteer handyman who can help with:
✅ General maintenance and repairs
✅ Painting and decorating
✅ Minor carpentry
✅ Odd jobs that keep our clinic in good shape

You don't need to be a professional—just someone with a good heart, a practical skillset, and a few hours to spare.

Your time and skills would directly support people struggling with mental health challenges, including domestic abuse survivors, veterans with PTSD, single parents under stress, and families in crisis.

Know someone who might be interested? Please share this post or send them our way.

Drop us a message or visit devonclinic.co.uk to get in touch.

Together, we can keep this vital community resource thriving. 💙

The start of a new year is often framed as a fresh beginning, but for many people January can feel heavier than expected. There can be pressure to feel motivated, hopeful, or energised when in reality you might be feeling tired, low, anxious, or emotionally overwhelmed.

If this time of year is bringing up mixed emotions, you are not failing and you are not alone. Adjusting to new routines, financial strain, darker days, and lingering exhaustion can take its toll, and it is okay to acknowledge that.

Support is available, and talking things through can help you make sense of what you are feeling and what you need next.

If the start of the year feels heavy, support is available. Visit our website to explore your options: https://www.thedevonclinic.co.uk/

Today is our final working day before the Christmas break. As the year draws to a close, we know this period can bring a mix of emotions, reflections, and challenges for many people. If you have been considering reaching out for support, today is a good time to get in touch so we can help guide you before we close.

Our clinic will be closed from the end of today, Friday 19 December, and we will reopen on Monday 5 January. During this time, our team will not be monitoring enquiries, but we will respond as soon as possible once we return in the new year.

If you need urgent emotional support while we are closed, we encourage you to contact your GP, NHS 111, or local crisis services. You can also find information about support options and our services on our website at https://thedevonclinic.co.uk

We wish you a gentle Christmas period and look forward to supporting you again in January.

We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to G12 Business Networking Club and everyone who attended their Christmas lunch for choosing to support The Devon Clinic as their charity of the year. Thanks to the generosity of those who took part, £210 was raised to support our work with individuals and families across Devon.

Support like this helps us continue providing accessible therapeutic care within our community and reminds us how powerful local connections and shared values can be. Events like this are about more than fundraising. They show what is possible when people come together with kindness and intention.

If you are a holistic or talking therapy practitioner, the space you work from matters more than you might think. The environment shapes how clients feel when they arrive, how supported they feel during sessions, and how sustainable your own practice becomes over time.

At The Devon Clinic in Paignton, we offer more than just room hire. Practitioners work from calm, welcoming spaces, alongside experienced professionals, within a community interest organisation that puts people first. It is a setting designed to support ethical, high quality therapy work while helping practitioners feel connected rather than isolated.
