Before techniques come attitude, awareness and responsibility. Without those, no training format works.
When someone approaches me about training in hypnotherapy, I am not just thinking about whether they can learn an induction or follow a structure. I am considering who they are and how they show up. Therapeutic work involves real people, real vulnerability and real change. That carries weight.
I look for curiosity, emotional maturity and a willingness to reflect. I look for people who can listen properly, who are open to feedback and who understand that this work is not about performance. It is about presence. Skill can be developed. Technique can be refined. But integrity and responsibility have to be there from the beginning.
Not everyone is suited to therapeutic work, and that is not a criticism. It is simply an acknowledgement that working with the inner world of another person requires steadiness and self awareness. As a trainer, I take seriously the responsibility of teaching methods that can influence someone’s wellbeing. Certification should never be handed out lightly.
Before learning how to guide others, a student must be prepared to hold that responsibility.
What do you think carries the most responsibility in therapy work?
